I love the look of mascara on my bottom lashes. I think that the look is super feminine and really accentuates the eyes. But I’m not talking about eyelashes that are drenched in lashings of clumpy, dark mascara, Twiggy style. When done right, it should look soft and flattering.

Whether you already wear mascara on your bottom lashes or perhaps you’re considering trying out the look for yourself, here’s our guide to doing it right.
You need two mascaras
I know it’s not ideal, but it’s SO worth investing in a second mascara specifically for your bottom eyelashes. The mascara that you use on your top lashes is most likely designed to curl and add volume to your lashes. Which is great for your top lashes, but not for your bottom lashes. Instead, look for a simple mascara with a small wand.
Use a waterproof formula
If you’re wearing mascara on your bottom lashes, you can easily end up with raccoon eyes from your eyes watering or the formula mixing with your concealer and smudging. Avoid this disaster by choosing a waterproof formula that will stay put all day long.
Try a brown mascara
Many people avoid bottom lash mascara because they think that it looks too harsh, but this can easily be avoided by using a brown mascara instead of a black one. Personally, I always recommend a brown or espresso coloured mascara to anyone who wants to wear mascara on their bottom lashes. It’s more flattering, looks softer and makes your eyes appear bigger.
