A Close Look At The Beauty Trend That Won This Year’s SAG Awards

After last year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (otherwise known as the SAG Awards), we wouldn’t blame you if you thought that red carpets were dead. The 2021 pandemic-impacted ceremony featured a pre-recorded segment, which many celebrities streamed from the comfort of their backyard, looking a lot more casual than couture.

This year, however, things looked a little different. The television and movie A-listers restored our faith in the glitz and glamour of award show red carpets, and even introduced us to a fun beauty trick: matching your makeup and outfit.

So, you can forget contrasting colours, toss out your colour wheel and stop second-guessing which shade combinations will and won’t work, because these celebs have proven that coordinating your eyeshadow to your dress is a foolproof way to nail your look.

Lady Gaga is no stranger to a perfect harmony, and now she’s back with her strongest ensemble yet: the one involving her striking chrome eye makeup and equally dazzling dress.

To recreate this look, we recommend the NYX Professional Makeup Jumbo Eye Pencil, $9.95 at Priceline

Frosted in silver, Jessica’s glistening eye acted as the perfect accompaniment to her matching metallic power suit. Oh, and the sparkling SAG award she took home didn’t look too shabby either.

We’re normally fangirling over a red lip moment, but Kirsten Dunst has brought this deep shade of crimson away from her lips and to her lids. The (sequinned) cherry on top? Her perfectly coordinating dress.

To create Jennifer’s dreamy rose-hued look, makeup artist Adam Burrell used Charlotte Tilbury’s Instant Eye Palette in a shade that needs no introduction: Pillow Talk.

$120 at Charlotte Tilbury

In spite of the complementary shades of navy, the styles at play here clash. But they do so in the best way possible because Jada’s mix of vintage and modern is a match made in heaven.

There’s coordination, and then there’s Laverne Cox’s crystal-embellished smokey eye. Our hats are off to her makeup artist, Deja Smith, for managing to momentarily steal our attention away from the dress. We didn’t think it would be possible.

We can’t help but feel as though Giorgio Armani created this shade of eyeshadow just for Sandra Oh’s red carpet moment. And for anyone who thought metallic-on-metallic might be too much, when it’s paired with softly flushed cheeks, it’s simple, elegant and classic.

Recreate Sandra’s look with the Eye Tint Liquid Eye Colour in the shade Ice, $56.90 at Oz Cosmetics

Or for something similar, we recommend the Maybelline New York EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24H Metal Eye Shadow, $31.46 at Amazon

  1. I think it would be hard to pull off a lot of matching make up and outfit combos if you’re part of the general public. Hats off to anyone who manage to do it well!
