Sometimes I get a bit antsy at my desk. Being in the beauty biz does involve a bit more admin than you’d expect, and when I have 300 emails to deal with, all I want to do is go play with new beauty releases.
A few days ago, that’s exactly what I did. I took myself down to our beauty cupboard, picked four new lip products and tried them out. For the first time. On camera.
It appears to be a dark pink in this picture, but it’s actually a Barbie-pink colour in real life. I was expecting it to come out looking a little pastel, but it just gave my lips the slightest hint of pink. As the name suggests, it feels really balm-y. It’s the kind of thing I’d use if my lips felt dry but I still wanted a touch of colour.

Yep, Rubi Shoes does lipstick! Isn’t that cool? The colour went on beautifully and was really pigmented. It’s a pretty shade of coral, the kind of colour that would suit almost any skin tone and complement most summer make-up looks. It’s not the most long-lasting lippie (as I discovered after filming), but I’m a big enough fan of the colour to let that go.
Looking at the crayon, I thought this would glide on like a balm, but it actually tugged a tiny bit. Not a crisis, though. The colour was incredibly pigmented and an excellent shade of red if you’re looking for something a little punchy. The colour lasted for ages, too, which is a massive plus in my book (I drink a lot of tea, which isn’t so good for lip colour maintenance).
I’ll be honest: I was expecting this to be a really pigmented gloss. The colour was quite pigmented and a really beautiful pink, but wasn’t as intense as I thought it would be. It’s actually a great product for those who want some colour but are too afraid to go for a full-on lipstick. It also felt really nice on my lips; soft, and not tacky like many other glosses.
