I don’t know about you guys, but if an app can make my life easier, I’m all for it. Like the app that counts my calories and tells me how well (or, more likely, terribly) I’ve eaten that day.
So you can imagine the speed at which I downloaded the new L’Oréal Paris Makeup Genius app when I discovered it was available here in Oz.The nifty app not only takes the guesswork out of buying L’Oréal Paris products, but it does so without you needing to swatch a thing.
It uses advanced facial mapping technology to transform your front-facing iPhone and iPad camera into a mirror so you can ‘try on’ the products. You can either scan a L’Oréal Paris product barcode, or choose one from the database of products to see how it looks on before you buy it. You can also try on one of the read-to-wear make-up looks.
The tech-savvy folk behind this app also made sure that the make-up products trialled and the looks tested are pretty true-to-life. With 64 facial data points and 100 different facial expressions, the app is intuitive enough to tell the difference between the skin of your lips, eyes and other facial contours, so the virtual make-up moves with you as you turn your head, blink, pout and move around.
Here’s a shot of me trying out the L’Oréal Paris SuperLiner Gel Liner:
And then I added the Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Rouge Soprano:
And then I decided to go nuts and try out some of the looks they’ve got on there:
It looks like I’ve legitimately put the make-up on, right?
The app is available – for free! – from today from the App Store and can be used on iPhones and iPads. There’s an Android version, too.
Play around with it and let me know what you think!
Will you download this app? Which L’Oréal product would you most like to virtually try?
I have to try this app, looks like a lot of fun.
