Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on her beauty routine and motherhood

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a superwoman. As the Global Beauty Ambassador for bareMinerals, a supermodel and successful businesswoman, she’s constantly on-the-go. Not to mention that she always looks flawless. And seriously, those abs don’t lie. So, how does she do it?

We caught up with the former Victoria’s Secret angel at #MECCALAND to discuss her in-flight beauty routine, motherhood and her favourite Aussie skincare brand.

Do you pack your own in-flight beauty kit?

I do! I have an in-flight beauty kit with all mini things and samples of everything. The only time I use a makeup removing wipe is on the plane because I don’t generally use them – I find them quite abrasive. On a plane, I’d rather use a wipe than plain water.

What’s your in-flight beauty routine?

Usually, I take my makeup off and then apply serums and the bareMinerals SKINLOGEVITY products. The bareMinerals SKINLONGEVITY Vital Power Sleeping Gel is amazing to use on the plane. Being a gel it absorbs really nicely into your skin. Then I get any mists or aromatherapy oils. My seat always smells really good on the plane. Then I rest.

Before I land I have what I call my 5-minute face makeup products –bareMinerals Original SPF 15 Foundation loose foundation, I don’t know if you guys have ever used it but it’s like the OG and this is so great for travelling and having in your handbag because it is so quick and easy to use. It has amazing coverage and it is also really luminous, so I really love that and think it’s great to travel with. Then I’ll do a little bit of cream blush, eyebrows and then the sunglasses go on. Usually I’ll pack an outfit to get off the plane in that’s like totally un-relatable but usually, there are cameras on the other end. There’s a system and trust me, I’m sure if you knew there would be cameras you’d have a whole outfit…I’m wearing sweatpants on the plane trust me!

Do you do anything with your hair?

Before I travel I’ll usually blow my hair out, and then on the plane, I’ll put it in a scrunchie so it doesn’t get creased and just give it a quick brush with a hairbrush. I’ve got my trusty Mason Pearson; it’s always in the bottom of my bag.

How do you prepare for a big event?

When prepping for a big event, diet wise I definitely won’t be eating a burger. I’ll usually try and eat really clean beforehand. It was the met ball last week and so I had a really great lymphatic drainage massage just before and then I love a spray tan. I’m sorry, I just love a spray tan! It’s like a game changer, so I’ll always have a bronze glow. A good facial beforehand and then, yeah, a good night’s sleep, a good hair mask and a nice face mask in the day time.

What’s your go-to for a spray tan?

I don’t know what my girls use actually. James Read is my tanning man in London and he obviously uses his own products. Then obviously you guys know I used to work with ModelCo and love their ModelCo TAN AIRBRUSH IN A CAN. I don’t often do it on myself, but if need be you know.

If you have 5 minutes to get out the door, what are the products that you apply?

I have my skincare routine, so I’ll cleanse tone, moisturise and usually end up using the bareMinerals SKINLOGEVITY Vital Power Eye Gel Cream. So my skins nice and prepped, and then the bareMinerals Original SPF 15 Foundation is incredible. It’s super quick and easy to use and it really has amazing coverage. I think one of the reasons I’m so in love with this product is because when I first tried it, I really didn’t believe it was going to be effective. I thought it was going to leave me looking dry and cakey and powdery. If you have used it then you will know it just looks really luminous and radiant and it does give you beautiful coverage. Then I’ll use a little bit of concealer on my imperfections and lips, then a great bronzer, blush and groomed eyebrows. If I don’t have time to do my eyes, I’m fine with natural lashes.

What time do you usually get up in the morning?

I set my alarm at 6:30 am. That allows me to have an hour to kind of get up, have my matcha latte, do my email, have a little bit of time with my man and then I’ll start getting up at like 7:30 am.

How do you juggle work and motherhood?

When I know the answer to that question, I will let you know. That is what I’m asking like every working mum right now. It’s really a big topic for me and it’s one of the challenges of being a working mum and having a career, loving to work and loving to be a mum but still making sure you spread your time across both things accordingly. I think for me, recently what I’ve decided to do is actually carve out times within my week to really set aside for family time and I know these are my three hours today doing this, or at the office or with family and nothing else really penetrates it. I think you kind of let the day unfold and you run around feeling like you are pulled in all different directions. You’ve got to do this and that and it’s not really set. So now, I’m really trying to say this is time for this and this is time for that. Which is so bizarre because everything is quite scheduled, but it seems to be the most efficient way of doing things. But yeah. it’s definitely a thing. Before I had Jack I would read working mums talk about the work mum juggle and I would be like ‘what are they talking about,’ every woman works. When you really have a demanding career and a child, it really is as a woman, normal to be struggling with the mum deal and applying yourself enough to each and it’s hard, it’s really hard. Your heart always feels it should be somewhere it’s not. I think the dialogue between other women is important and talking about it and getting support from other women is really, really incredible. It’s definitely not something I think men feel the same about as women do.

You mentioned that you’ve been talking to other women and asking them for advice. What’s the best bit of advice you’ve gotten?

I think to make sure you have the right support system around you. Whether that’s family. Whether that’s help, or whether it’s just having that support system. I live in LA and my mum’s in England and she’s always at the end of the phone but I miss her and I miss my sisters. I’ve sort of found my little village so to speak in LA and you know you make it work. It is about having supportive family members and friends and a partner around you to help you through that.

What are your favourite Australian skincare brands?

I do love Lanolips! That Banana Balm Lip Sheen 3-in-1 is at the bottom of every handbag of mine. The hand cream and moisturiser as well. I love that brand, it’s really sweet and I like the founder’s story.
