I Tried A Lash Lift And This Is Everything You Need To Know

In case you weren’t already aware, I’m obsessed with my eyelashes.

I am a self-proclaimed mascara addict, and while it may be my favourite step in my makeup routine, it unfortunately happens to be the most time consuming step as well.

I know that for most people mascara takes all of about 5 seconds. But for me, a true mascara aficionado, my mascara application can take anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 whole minutes, depending on how fierce I’m trying to look that day.

Over the years I’ve tried lots of different ways to cut down the time I spend applying mascara. I’ve tried eyelash extensions, falsies, a million different mascaras, and most recently, I tried a lash lift and tint.

What is a lash lift and tint?

A lash lift is like a perm for your eyelashes. It gives the effect of what your lashes would look like if you used a mechanical curler everyday. It really opens the eye and can make your lashes look much thicker and longer than they actually are.

A lash tint is essentially the same concept as a brow tint— dying your eyelashes a shade or two darker so they stand out more. This combination results in darker, thicker, and longer-looking lashes that don’t require curling or mascara. Who doesn’t want that?!

What is the maintenance on a lash lift and tint?

A last lift and tint lasts about 6 weeks and there is essentially no maintenance between treatments. You can still wear mascara, wash your face as normal, get your lashes wet in the shower, and use makeup remover and all your normal products.

The treatment costs about $100-$150 total.

Why choose a lash lift and tint over eyelash extensions?

There are pros and cons to both treatments. But in general, if you’re after a more natural look that requires little-to-no maintenance (beyond the actual treatment itself), then a lash lift is for you. A lash lift and tint accentuates your natural lashes — it’s your lashes but better. You’re also not pigeon-holed as much as you are with extensions, so if you’re someone who likes to use makeup remover on your eyes for example, or wants the option to wear mascara when going for a different look, a lash lift and tint may be a better option than extensions.

Eyelash extensions are better suited if you want to look like you’re permanently wearing mascara (or even false eyelashes if you go that dramatic!). They give you a full lash makeover and can quite drastically change the way your eyes look. However, they require more maintenance between treatments and can get quite pricey.

What’s the best mascara to use for a lash tint and lift?

As mentioned, you can use mascara as much as you’d like with this treatment. Because a lash lift and tint lends itself more to adding length rather than volume, I found volumising mascaras to be the best option for me.

bh recommends:
1. Benefit They’re Real! Mascara ($44 at Sephora)
2. Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara ($10.69 at Chemist Warehouse)
3. COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara ($15.99 at Chemist Warehouse)
4. Natio Amplify and Separate Volumising Mascara ($16.95 at Myer)

  1. I’ve been debating getting a lift & tint for a while, but I think I’m defiantly going to give it a try now. Just started googling reputable places, and I will be waiting a while because I’ve heard some horror stories!!
