It’s true what they say: everything will come back into fashion. Whether it’s a brown lipstick straight out of the ’90s, thin eyebrows, or Zoë Kravitz’s take on Audrey Hepburn bangs, beauty is an ongoing time loop and we’re just along for the ride.
Case in point, after the release of the highly-anticipated Don’t Worry Darling, we’ve become a little obsessed with the film’s glamorous ’50s aesthetic. And it seems we’re not alone. Stepping out for the premiere of her newest film, Kate Hudson was rocking a look that we can only describe as being nicked straight from Florence Pugh’s on-set closet.
Kate’s dolled-up and elegant makeup was heavy on the liquid liner, frosty shimmer shadow and blush. Her big hair was held together with a white bow too, much like the headbands, ribbons and clips we saw both Florence and Oliva Wilde wear throughout the film. Our verdict? Obsessed. Obviously.
Perhaps she’s keen for a cameo in the sequel? Ah, we can dream.
It seems we weren’t the only ones obsessing over this look on Kate. Her celebrity pals came out in full force, flooding her Instagram comments section with endless compliments. She was sent a “that’s hot” from Paris Hilton, a “GORGEOUS!” from Elle Fanning and Leslie Mann even dropped by to tell Kate she looked “so pretty!”. We love supportive friends.
How to re-create Kate’s look…
To complement Kate’s feline-flicked liner (which we recommend testing out with the ulta3 Liquid Eyeliner, $9.50 at ulta3), her nail artist Ashlie Johnson went for a maroon almond-shaped manicure. Though she didn’t name the exact shade used, we love OPI’s Infinite Shine ‘Stick To Your Burgundies’ ($23.95 at Myer) for a similar colour to Kate’s. Ugh, divine.
Here’s hoping Kate’s makeup artist, Tonya Brewer and hairstylist, Gregory Russell, spill the deets on how they achieved this gorgeous look.
What do you think of Kate’s look? Would you like to try this ’50s-inspired glam?
I love this look stunning on both Florence and Kate! Loved that movie also.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, I’ll have to check it out
I’ve seen it too. Loved it.
I’ve not seen the movie but am keen to go.
Gorgeous look, I love the circle of makeup fashion and hair.
I love these looks! The eye makeup (liner) is superb.
I have no talent when it comes to liquid eyeliner but it looks fantastic on Kate!!
This look really suits her.
love the dress!
I think the light eyeshadow makes her eyes look smaller, but I love that eyeliner!
I think Kate looks gorgeous. Don’t think it would suit me though.
I like this look on her, I really don’t like the one that heads the article with the red eye shadow.
no the red eye looked like bruising
yes its the wrong shades, makes her look tired
Agreed! Not sure why they lead with that pic when it’s not even mentioned?
I love this look!
It looks great on her, but not for me.
I really like the hairdo
Keen to watch the movie but the reviews are so hit and miss.
Kate Hudson is so very beautiful she really has gotten her looks from her Stunning Mother Goldie Hawn.

I love Florence’s hair and makeup.
Not so keen on the eye makeup but the dress is gorgeous
I don’t like too much eye shadow under the lower eye lid
Kate looks incredible here! Love the dress, hair and makeup.
Love it! Yes very pretty! I do love the design of the top part of her dress too
Love this look! The eye flick is gorgeous
Not a fan of the eye make up
I love this look.
Love purple makeup
Kate always looks amazing.
She looks great, but honestly there aren’t many looks she can’t carry off.
I feel the top photo is more 90’s or perhaps 80’s? I know my 90’s look was brown/nude lips.
She looks amazing.
I think it looks beautiful and would love to give it a try.
Stunning! I’m really excited to see don’t worry darling!
What a cute look! It really suits her
