JLo’s Met Manicure Is All Thanks To These Half-Price Polishes

And just like that, it’s done for another year. The highly anticipated Met Gala 2023 has been and gone. Although, whether it’s Miranda Kerr’s gorgeous berry lip or Jessica Chastain’s bleached blonde hair, we’ve still got months worth of beauty looks to obsess over. Which brings us to today’s Met moment: JLo’s manicure.

One Chanel-inspired black and beige design (sadly hidden under gloves for a large duration of the night) that featured a few very affordable polishes. Even more so now that they’re 50 per cent off.

Celebrity nail artist, Tom Bachik, was responsible for the gorgeous, black-tipped manicure, and while we can’t give you an exact cost on those black diamonds (or the rock on JLo’s finger), we can tell you that the two-toned mani was created using a combination of essie nail polishes.

The exact nail polishes used on JLo…

“I painted two coats of the [essie Gel Couture Nail Polish] in ‘Fairy Tailor’ (currently $8.99, Priceline) on the entire nail,” Tom shared via Instagram.

“Followed by a coat of [essie’s] ‘Licorice’ ($13.99, Chemist Warehouse) down the side in a diagonal motion.”

Though he’s very generous in detailing his process, we’re still unsure we’d have a steady enough hand to pull off such a perfectly-symmetrical pattern. But hey, we’ll give it a go regardless.

As for keeping everything in place for the long night ahead? Good question. Tom used essie’s Gel Couture Long-Lasting Matte Nail Polish Top Coat (currently $8.99, Priceline) over the first layer of ‘Fairy Tailor’.

As for the black lines, they were coated with essie’s Stay Longer Top Coat (currently $10.49, Priceline) to achieve that “patent leather gloss” finish. Genius.
