Hit print for perfection

Hit print for perfection

Just as we’re all getting to grips with the art of airbrush and spray-on foundation, the Japanese have gone and upped the ante. We’ve just read that a patent is pending on a “cosmetic printer” that uses electronic inkjets to spray make-up onto your face. No kidding.

Apparently, you load it up with a foundation cartridge, press Go and  let it paint you to finely-detailed perfection. A few tweaks and it might even be able to ‘print’ on your blush, lippy and eyeshadow too. Just imagine the colour customisation if you could add one droplet of cyan to magenta!

Everyone could be an at-home make-up artist. I’m envisaging programmes you could download to master precise looks and, as New Scientist quipped upon discovering the patent, maybe your favourite happy snaps could be printed onto your eyelids too.

It’s frightening! Call me old-fashioned, but I like the ritual of brushing and beautifying myself with pretty pots of colour. And, considering the way my inkjet at home splutters and completely freaks out over a simple Word document, I doubt I’ll be trusting it with my eyeliner any time soon.  I’m holding out for an electronic hairdresser that can style me into glossy sleekness every morning. In fact, I’m calling it the robostylist and the patent’s mine.
