Sometimes, just sometimes, when I think I’m growing up, becoming a proper woman with all sorts of grown up things to deal with, like car repayments, tax and her own Medicare card, I get catapulted back down to earth with a thud. A thud that reminds me that really, underneath all the make-up and the grown-up demeanour, I’m still really just a kid that loves playing with lipstick.
Literally, I LOVE it. So much so that I’ve been meaning to ask you – does anyone else get a total thrill out of waking up in the morning, doing your make-up and realising you have a whole blank canvas on your lips? Don’t get me wrong, doing my eye make-up is a thrill all in itself, but there’s some kind of crazy joy in choosing between many (and I mean many) lip hues at the start of a day – it’s kind of a way for me to represent what sort of look and character I’ll adopt for that day. Don’t scoff. I know it sounds kind of silly – but it’s true!
Take this morning for instance. I hopped in my car with my daily face of foundation, bronzer, sheer shadow, structured brows, subtle liner and lashings of mascara – and nude lips. At the lights, I rustled through around 20 lip products (think a mixture of glosses, tints, lipsticks, stains and balms) in my handbag until I clapped eyes on a Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in a Coral (No.12) shade I had forgotten I even had. This was the one.
Am I alone here? Who else is still this obsessed with beauty?
