How-to: use liquid liner

Liquid and gel liners sit pretty high up there on the list of scary beauty products to use. Probably just below bright red lipstick.

But there’s a trick to using liquid liners to create a winged look (whether subtle or stand-out) that makes the whole thing a whole lot easier.

bh’s make-up artist, Bree, demonstrates how easy it is to master a liquid liner pen and create a winged liner look in just a few minutes. Watch the video and let us know what you think.

Or, if you can’t watch the video, here are the steps in a nutshell:

Pick a liquid liner with a fine tip

A fine tip, like the one on L’Oreal Paris SuperLiner So Couture and SuperLiner Perfect Slim, will allow for greater control when creating your line. Plus, if you make any mistakes, you can use the fine point to fill in gaps as well as create that excellent flick at the end.

Start in the middle of your eye

Rest your liner horizontally on the middle of your eye above your lashes, then gently draw the line outwards (to the outer corners) in short, sweeping motions.

If your eyes are close together, emphasise the line on the outer edges of your eyes, and draw a fine line on the inner corner – this is another reason why the fine point is so incredibly handy. If your eyes are wider apart, focus your line on the inner corners of your eyes.

Lift the line slightly at the end

When you get to the outer edge of your iris, start gently lifting your line. This works to give your eyes a more almond shape and prevents them from looking droopy. Take a look at Bree’s left eye (the lifted one) compared to the right eye (where she’s followed the lash line) – the right eye looks a little droopy in comparison.
