How-to: Megan Gale’s Cannes red carpet look

Brunette bombshell Megan Gale is no stranger to the red carpet, and as the Australian Face of L’Oréal Paris, she’s pretty used to turning up the glamour.

Last week she attended the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, and she did not disappoint. She walked the red carpet twice, sporting two different beauty looks, and ours was the rock gorgeous, smouldering smoky eye paired a soft nude lip. We chatted to Megan about all things beauty and what it’s like to mingle with the who’s-who in Cannes…

bh: Did you pick up any make-up tricks while you were having your make-up done for the Cannes Film Festival?
My make-up artist was all about prepping my skin. He really cleansed, hydrated and moisturised my skin to make it smooth and dewy before he applied any make-up. I think it’s that preparation of the skin that gives your complexion that flawless look.

bh: You’ve walked the Cannes red carpet a few times now – what do you love most about being there?
The location in the south of France is spectacular and beautiful at that time of year. It’s also great to meet the new L’Oréal Paris ambassadors and catch up with everyone.

bh: Which L’Oreal ambassador were you most excited to meet/see again?
It was a surprise for me to see Eva Longoria this year. I knew she wa going to be on the red carpet but I didn’t expect to run into her. She’s so fun, sweet and always happy to see you and have a chat!

bh: If you could have ‘stolen’ any of the other ambassadors’ style, whose would it have been and why?
Probably Doutzen [Kroes]. She always looks spectacular. She’s so incredibly busy, but she always looks flawless and her hair and make-up suits her so beautifully. I like her red carpet wardrobe choices as well – they’re really stunning and she’s a lovely girl as well.

bh: What were your inflight beauty essentials?
I keep it pretty simple. As soon as I get on the plane, I like to have my face completely clean because I really want to look after it – especially on the way to a red carpet event. I spray it a lot with either water or rose water, keep it really hydrated by moisturising it, and drink plenty of water.

bh: Now that you’re a mum, we’re assuming you don’t have as much time to get glam. What are your go-to beauty products for looking gorgeous in next-to-no time?
[Laughs] Sometimes I spend more time getting my son ready than myself! When I was a really new mum, I used dry shampoo a lot. It really helped to freshen up my hair and give it great texture as well whether I was creating a topknot or a ponytail. When it comes to make-up, I’d just hit a few key points – mascara, blush and a bold red lip is a quick pick-me-up when you haven’t got much time.

HOW-TO: Megan’s smokin’ red carpet look

L’Oréal Paris Make-Up Director, Elsa Morgan took us through the steps taken to create Megan’s red carpet look.

“This look is very polished, but it’s not heavy,” said Elsa. “It works really well on camera, and in the flesh as well. This is a go-to look that works beautifully with a red carpet gown.” We’d say it’s a brilliant look that works for any big event – even if you’re not walking the red carpet!

Step 1: We primed Megan’s skin first with the L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Primer to make sure her skin was flawless canvas for the foundation.

Step 2: Megan always uses the L’Oréal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation, so this was applied to her face, and then she was given a glow with the L’Oréal Paris True Match Blush in 165 Rosy Cheeks.

Step 3: We used the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Mono in 201 Café St Germain and blended this across the entire eyelid. We then coated her lashes with the L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture in Black.

Step 4: We gave her a very soft, nude pink colour on her lips by using the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Made-for-Me Naturals Lipstick in 453 Rose Crème.

Step 5: Her brows were sculpted to be a very modern and full, using the L’Oréal Paris Brow Artist Plumper and filled them in with an eyebrow pencil.

What do you think of Megan’s red carpet look? Do you like creating a smoky eye?
