Hide your beauty flaws (not your face)

Hide your beauty flaws (not your face)

We all have that one body part or facial feature that we’d gladly get rid off. Hardly anybody else notices it but because you do, it can have a real effect on your confidence and overall happiness.

For me, it’s my ears. They’re the kind that warranted nicknames such as ‘dumbo’ in primary school. But that was before I started doing my own hair. Now I can quite easily cover them with strategic hair-do’s and although I’ll never be able to wear a slicked back pony, I’m quite happy with my appearance knowing they’re safely hidden.

So to all you fellow big eared, big nosed, thinned lipped and wrinkly self critiquers, here’s some tips on how you can hide your flaws and learn to love yourself again.

THIN LIPS

Your flaw: You avoid smiling with your teeth and you hate Scarlett Johansson.

Hide it: Learn to love lip liner. There’s no need to go crazy and line outside your natural lip line (unless you want to look like a clown), but simply defining your lips with a slightly darker liner will make a big (get it?) difference.

BIG NOSE

Your flaw: You feel like the rest of your face is invisible in the shadow of your snoz and you have to tilt your head a lot when going in for a kiss.

Hide it: Start by applying a lighter shade of powder down the thinnest part of your nose, the bridge. Then using a darker shade of foundation or some bronzer, shade either side of your nose and blend towards your cheeks. This will further emphasise the thin part of your nose.

SQUINTY EYES

Your flaw: Your eyes look closed in every photo and strangers always think you’re glaring at them.

Hide it: Lucky for you there are lots of ways to make your eyes appear bigger. To start, add a dab of highlighter in your tear duct area, next to your nose. Compliment this with a soft wash of colour from your lash line to your brow line. When wearing dark eyeliner, only apply to your top lids and then use a white or skin coloured pencil for your lower line. Lastly, use an eyelash curler and lots of mascara on your top lashes. And if she isn’t already there, add Taylor Swift to your beauty inspiration.

CROWS FEET

Your flaw: You avoid laughing, smiling or doing anything funny that may increase the depth of those nasty buggers out the corners of your eyes.

Hide it: Sadly there is no way to truly hide your crows feet, but you can draw attention elsewhere which is almost just as good. A neutral colour, shimmer eyeshadow paired with a few layers of mascara will draw people’s attention to the top and center of your eyes rather than the sides. An eye-catching coloured lipstick will also have a similar effect. A couple of beauty heaven members have also mentioned cutting a fringe in order to hide their forehead wrinkles. To see whether a fringe would suit you, read our fringe test blog.
