How-to: compare concealers

Think all concealers are alike? That’s where you’re wrong. Nowadays, there is a plethora of concealer options available – from mineral make up powders to creamy concealers and liquids, so knowing the differences to find the one that’s right for your needs has never been more important…

Cream concealers
Cream concealers usually come in a solid stick form and offer the highest level of coverage. Because they are much thicker than other forms of concealer, some people can find them cakey, so they’re best to avoid if you have a lot of fine lines or wrinkles. If you suffer from dark under eye bags however, a yellow-based cream concealer stick like Maybelline New York Coverstick Corrector Concealer is the closest thing to a magic fix. Put a little over your dark circles then cover in foundation and those panda eyes will be a thing of the past!

Liquid concealers
Liquid concealers usually come in a tube or in stick form with a brush or sponge. They are thinner in consistency than cream concealers, but can be highly effective cover-up tools when you are after light to medium coverage. A liquid concealer works really well with your usual make up primer and is best for people with slight redness or small blemishes. Try Maxfactor Mastertouch Concealer – it’s precision sponge tip is perfect for easy, targeted concealing.

Powder concealers
Powder concealers are great for light, matte coverage. Many powder concealers can be worn alone, without foundation and they won’t clog pores like liquid and cream concealers can. Mineral make up powders are also more suitable for sensitive skin, though they’re not ideal for use on fine lines and wrinkles as the powder can cake around these areas. Use a light, mineral make up powder concealer for dabbing over a pimple or blemish for an instant quick fix. Try Mahya Mineral Make up Concealer – available in a range of shades.
