During the week I spend about 20 minutes in front of the mirror each day. BB cream, blush, mascara, a quick straighten and I’m done. But on the weekends, when I’m heading out, I can spend well over an hour. Especially if my hair needs to be washed, blow-dried and styled.
According to research carried out by the Today Show and AOL, the average woman spends 55 minutes on her appearance every day, which amounts to two weeks a year.
Considering my weekday and weekend beauty that figure doesn’t come as a shock to me, but when you think about what you could do with an extra two weeks a year (a holiday, shopping, relaxing), it may seem a bit silly to spend that long.
However, if I take into account how much better I feel when my make-up and hair is just right, how much fun I have trying new lipsticks and the satisfaction of plucking my unruly eyebrows, then all of a sudden it doesn’t seem silly at all.
But that’s just one beauty-obsessed opinion. We wanted to find out if 55 minutes was really that long to spend on a beauty routine, so we threw the question out to our forum, and here’s what some of you said about the time you spend in front of the mirror (although to be fair, as beautyheaven members, also quite beauty obsessed!).
“I always run out of time in the morning for the entire routine – but spending nearly an hour just on appearance seems a little ridiculous” –Tee631
