Last year, a study showed that men prefer “natural” make-up and now comedian Amy Shumer’s confirmed it with a hilarious musical parody, “Girl, You Don’t Need Make-up”.
The comedian’s Comedy Central spoof (which has gone viral since it aired just two days ago) features a boy band that seem a LOT like One Direction urging her to ditch her make-up – only to beg her to put it straight back on again.
In the hilarious clip, the sickly sweet boys tell a dolled-up Schumer to “wash that lovely face off in the sink” because she’s “got that inner natural glow”.
Shumer obligingly takes her make-up off – but when she reappears barefaced, the boys quickly change their tune, crooning, “You’ll be the hottest girl in the nation, with just a touch of foundation”.
“It’s like I tore up a shag carpet assuming there was hardwood floor underneath, but it turned out to be just dirty linoleum,” one boy laments, prompting Shumer to scramble to cover up her face again (with hilarious results).
After the episode aired, Amy asked her followers to spread the message by tweeting their “#girlyoudontneedmakeup pics. Thousands have already responded, taking to social media to share their make-up free selfies:
Although it’s a humorous video, Amy also wanted to convey a more serious message – and she was clearly moved by the support, tweeting:
“I have been brought to tears with all the strong, badass, incredible women tonight… All the strong, lovely men who tweeted too.”
