Are DIY gel nails worth it?
Let’s be real. If you’re willing to work to achieve top-tier results, 100 per cent yes, they’re worth it. But if you’re a chronic ‘nail-art getter’ and your artistic skills leave a little to be desired then maybe you’re best to keep heading into the salons. However, for those that like to keep it simple and often opt for the same three colours (you know what works!), investing in one of these DIY gel nail kits is a great way to still keep your nails looking fresh all while saving heaps of cash.
How to remove gel nail polish at home
It’s the age-old conundrum. You’ve gotten your nails painted with a gel polish (stunning), but it’s been a few weeks and they’re starting to look, well, ratty. And that’s where you’ve got to make the call. Do you re-do them, or do you take it off for a breather? If you’re looking to get your gel nail polish off at-home without completely wrecking your nails underneath (that can happen) here are some helpful tips.
Firstly, give them a quick buff with a nail file. We know, it sounds silly, but that allows for step two to work its magic more effectively. So, what’s this mysterious step two? Well you’ll need some acetone (be sure to check the nail polish bottle to ensure it actually contains the ingredient). Soak a cotton pad in the stuff and apply it to your nails. And the truly in-salon experience comes when you take pieces of aluminium foil and wrap your nail tips up securely. After a few minutes (we’d give it five to ten to make sure), remove the foil and push away at the now loose polish. And ta-da, gel nail clad no longer. Just be sure to follow up with some nourishing cuticle oil.

Do you get your nails done in a salon? Would you make the DIY switch?
I did use to get my nails done at the salon and then I discovered stick ons
That’s such a good idea
I don’t do my nails, but if I did I’d try stick ons first.
A gel nail kit sounds convenient
I’m a fan of the classic manicure, never tried the gel one
These look like a great alternative to getting your nails done at a salon.
Plain old old fashioned nail polish is still my go to
I still do my own regular manicures
Salon prices are getting a bit steep. I might have to explore the DIY route with a gel polish kit.
Yes it would be a good saving in the end
I can’t get myself to use these.
I’ve never tried gel nails, either at a salon or at home.
No i haven’t tried gel nails either
Love the little sets that you can buy
I much prefer my nails to be natural and healthy and I do my own manicures. I’ve probably had five salon manicures in my whole life, and I wasn’t happy with any of them.
These look good but I think I’ll leave it to the professionals
I like the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel range, which doesn’t need a lamp. It’s got great longevity & shine. The top coat can be used over any nail polish.
After the initial cost it would save a lot of money
I prefer to go to a salon for convenience.
Oh IO must do my nails this weekend
definitely need something like this, my nails are looking terrible
I would love the Esmio kit
I’ve heard of the Glamdip one because my 23 year old wanted it for her bday last year and I bought her this kit.
How did it test out ?
I’ve never had mine done professionally but enjoy doing gels at home
Not for me.
The dip kit looks interesting.
I just go with the professionals nowadays
I’m not interested in doing my own nails but these might work well for some
I don’t do my nails.
I love the look of gel nails and would certainly try from home first.
these kits look super fancy
