Not everyone likes applying foundation the same way. I wouldn’t do it without a brush, but I know plenty of people who swear by using their fingers.
So, here’s a handy video that goes through five different ways to apply foundation to get the best, most flawless results.
Can’t watch the video? Here’s the gist:
ALWAYS START IN THE CENTRE
No matter which method you decide to use, you should always start in the centre of your face and work your way out. This will help you to avoid ending up with that harsh (and pretty obvious) line on your jaw.
APPLYING FOUNDATION WITH YOUR FINGERS
Dab foundation on the centre of your face – your forehead, chin and nose – and blend it downwards.
Once you’ve blended it in, use your fingertips to gently dab the foundation in for a more natural result.
APPLYING FOUNDATION WITH A FOUNDATION BRUSH
Use the flat side of your brush to apply the foundation in downward strokes. Then, gently tap the foundation into your skin, again using the flat side.
APPLYING FOUNDATION WITH A SPONGE
Start by dampening your sponge. Then, use the flat side of the sponge to apply your foundation in a downward motion. Finish by patting it in.
Use the corners of the sponge for those hard-to-reach areas, like the corners of your eyes and around your nose.
APPLYING FOUNDATION WITH A BEAUTY BLENDER
Just like with the sponge, make sure the beauty blender is slightly damp, as this will ensure it doesn’t absorb too much foundation. Use the large flat side (or round side if your beauty blender is different) to lightly pat your foundation in.
You can use the pointy end to get into the corners of your eyes and around your nose.
APPLYING FOUNDATION WITH A STIPPLING BRUSH
Lightly press the bristles into your skin over and over, tapping the foundation in. Make sure you don’t use strokes or create large circles, as this won’t have a natural finish.
To buff in the small dots created by the brush, use light, small circles.
