5 DIY makeup storage ideas

If you’re a makeup lover, it’s easy for your makeup collection to get out of hand.

There are only so many M.A.C lipsticks you can keep in one space, after all. And if you’re as palette and powder obsessed as we are, you’ll want to keep all of your favourite items on display.

With no time like the present, and, you know, the whole self-isolation thing, we’ve forged ahead and found five of the prettiest DIY makeup storage ideas, so you can start organising (and styling) your makeup collection.

Stackable organiser

Clear stackable organisers will neatly store all of your makeup while still keeping it on display. You can find great stackable oraganisers for your makeup at Howards Storage World and Kmart.

Try: madesmart Bathroom Vanity Stackable Drawer & Tray (19.95 and $14.95, Howards Storage) or this Cosmetics Organiser ($9, Kmart).

Coffee beans

Here’s an idea for coffee lovers: Keep your makeup brushes in a jar filled with coffee beans! It not only looks chic but smells delicious too.

Candle jars

Not sure what to do with your old candle jars? Collect them to store your lipsticks, cotton tips and other small makeup items.

Palette organiser

If you’re addicted to makeup palettes (guilty!) you might want to look at purchasing a palette organiser. This will keep all of your palettes in one place, while showing off your fabulous collection.

We love the see-through and acrilyic ones from Muji for this very reason (Acrylic box/divider, $4.50, Muji).

Clear jewellery box

Jewellery boxes aren’t just for rings and earrings. They’re actually a beautiful way to store your lipsticks, perfumes and even your moisturiser.

  1. I did have my makeup stored in acrylic storage units on the chest of drawers on our bedroom, but most of it is in a case now. Biggest problem I have is my cat steals things, especially lipsticks!

  2. Don't have vanity. Being minimalist and having just a small floor seating, with a small foldable wooden table, I keep my beauty products, clothing and shoes (everything) in a small in-build wardrobe. Makeup stash is tiny (all fits into small travel case)

  3. I've recently reorganised my drawers. I used to use my bathroom medicine cabinet for makeup, but now I've cleaned out the drawers on my dressing table.

The article is showing the same image for Stackable Organiser & Clear jewellery box.

  4. I use empty Ferrero Rocher chocolate boxes (the clear plastic rectangular ones) to store my make-up. The bottom of the box is great for storing larger items and the top of the box holds the smaller items.

  5. I love the idea of a jewellery box for storage. I personally have repurposed a plastic box that some veggies came in (I think it was mushrooms). It's see through so easy to find the colour I want.

  6. I use empty jars for my brushes and I have a couple of the clear organisers from Kmart that I store my collection in. I have recently been looking for more storage ideas (especially palette dividers), so this article has come at the perfect time.

  7. I love drawer organisers like Chloe Morello has but my drawers are so small, I can only fit a couple of trays in them. I think I need to do a good clean out to make some more space.

  8. Lovely storage ideas. I currently have mine in a storage box under the sink and another tin but I find it's just too small to be organised very well. Thanks for the inspo for fixing my storage up!

  9. Absolutely love the candle jar and coffee beans idea, as these are so readily available and who doesn't love the smell of coffee beans. Also I've seen many use rice as alternative

  10. I'm just in the process of cleaning out my makeup and skincare stackable drawers and dividers. I'm testing products as I go and clearing out those I'm no longer happy with. I also have to sort the baskets of hair and body products in the vanity. It's a big job, but then again I have all the time in the world at present.

  11. I love the coffee beans idea! All my makeup/skincare is neatly organised I just need a palate organiser I couldn't find one when I was first looking, so when this C-virus is all over that's the last item I need to get 🙂

  12. I have not long been finished sorting out my makeup cupboard which is a great feeling because now I know what's in there and where to find it.

I keep the products I use every day on the vanity.
