Q) “I’m a mum of one and have never really worn make-up before. I find my skin is uneven, red and blotchy so I want to cover that by wearing just a light layer of make-up to make me look fresh and glowing. However, I’m clueless as what to use and how to use it! Please help!” – Janelle, NSW

A) “One of the easiest products to apply for any make-up novice is a mineral powder. The finish is flawless and can be layered easily to achieve coverage in any areas that are uneven or need more help. Most mineral powders come with applicators so again, it’s fairly foolproof to apply and fast (great when you’re trying to look after baby and get ready in the mornings!).

The best way to apply a loose mineral powder formulation is in circular motions, buffing the product into the skin; the more you buff the more polished, glowing finish will be achieved. Mineral powders are also fantastic on any skin type, in particular on sensitive skins, as they contain nourishing ingredients, and don’t contain any harsh or drying properties that could aggravate sensitive or dry skin that’s often associated with the red and blotchy texture you mentioned. There are many different mineral powders on the market to suit any budget – I particularly love Elizabeth Arden Mineral Powder Foundation SPF20, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder or Inika Mineral Cosmetics Mineral Foundation.”
