If you know your wedges from your wellies and your casualwear from your couture, then odds are you’ll be aware that Fashion Week has well and truly hit. As always, things kicked off in New York – and wow, were we bowled over by the display of bold hair and make-up looks that shimmied down the catwalk.
We’ve given you a taste of the looks that weren’t so wearable, but we spotted two hair and two make-up looks in particular that we just can’t get out of our heads. From bursts of mouth-watering metallics to ultra nod-worthy knots, there’s bound to be a trend for everyone to try, and we’ve got the tips on just how to do it…
FABULOUS FASHION WEEK LOOK #1: Gucci Westman for J Mendel
The key to getting eyes this bold is layering. Gucci used three shadows to create these metallic bronze eyes, and we’re not surprised.
To get a look that will go the distance without fading into a washed-out mess, it’s important to start with a base shadow that’s similar to the intense hue you want to finish up with and then gradually build up the colour until you’re left with a beautifully bold finish. Mixing up the textures of your products can help, too. Gucci used a regular powder shadow as the base for this eye look and then mixed crayon-like textures on top to create a multi-dimensional result.

FABULOUS FASHION WEEK LOOK #2: Guido Palau for Rag & Bone
If you’re into chic styles that can take you from desk to dancefloor, then this oh-so-wearable knot should be right up your alley.
A little bit punk and a whole lot awesome, you’ll be rocking this look whenever you find yourself having a bad hair day – and even when you don’t! Here’s how to get the look…
– Apply Redken guts 10 root targeted volumizing foam to damp hair from the root to the ends.
– Create a deep, clean low side part.
– Roughly blow-dry your hair with your fingers to create a very natural texture.
– When your hair is fully dry, add Redken powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo throughout to add texture and give a matte effect.
– Pull your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure with an elastic.
– Apply Redken quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray to your ponytail and twist it into a loose knot, securing with pins and letting the wispy ends stick out to one side.
– Soften the whole look by pulling and loosening the hair up a bit at the crown, not too exaggerated but to add a little height.
FABULOUS FASHION WEEK LOOK #3: Kai Vinson for Emerson
Bold, dramatic eyes are back, baby! This was proven at the Emerson show at NYFW. The make-up artist behind the look was Kai Vinson, the International Director for Artistry and Education Asia Pacific for Bobbi Brown.
The inspiration for this look was the luxe yet tough collection for Emerson, and was brought to life with a dramatic black cat eye with baby soft lips and fresh flushed cheeks. The skin was purposely left hydrated and smooth to act as a contrast to the dramatic eye. FABULOUS FASHION WEEK LOOK #4: Christopher Dove for Peter Som
If you love braids and twists and all things that make hair look interesting, then this intricate style from the Peter Som show is sure to get your attention. The best part? It’s super easy! Just ensure you follow the steps and have the right products on hand. It’s all about looking sleek and chic for this style, but we can’t help but think the twists on either side of your head will make for a pretty perfect date night ‘do, too.
– Apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to towel-dried hair.
– Blow-dry hair straight until completely dry to create a healthy canvas for styling.
– Separate your hair in a straight part either in the centre or a deep side part.
– Section your hair horizontally across the back of your head by pulling the lower half of your hair into a tight low ponytail at the nape of your neck, tying to one side, and leaving the front parted sections free so you now have three sections.
– Apply Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to your hair.
– Twist the ponytail like a rope and then around the base to create a knotted bun that’s secured into place with hairpins.
– The two parted sections at the front need to be twisted toward your head and then wrapped around the bun before securing in place. Make sure you hide the pins and secure the twists in place.
– To keep the hair really slick and free of flyaways and frizz, rub a small amount of Wella Professionals Sculpt Force Flubber Gel in your fingertips and then apply to your hair, smoothing down the strands near the part and near your face.
– For a high-gloss finish, spray about three to five pumps of Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray all over your hair.
