Humidity is a formidable enemy when it comes to most beauty battles.
Frizz? He’ll get ya. Shine? Takes no prisoners. Makeup that lasts after midday? Total sabotage.
So when going to war with such a muggy nemesis, you’ll need some pretty powerful allies. And when it comes to melt-free makeup, setting powders is one of the best moves we’ve got.
Here’s the ones that live up to the hype – just dust in your prone to perspiring areas and they’ll up your makeup’s staying power, no problems.
I have used MAC and Fit Me in the past. I have KVD and CoverFx to pan before I can try any other. Laura Mercier is on my list of powders to try. That Natio has impressive reviews too so I'm curious about it now. 🙂
I have an ASAP one but I rarely use it as I usually prefer to use a setting mist – I think the finish is slightly better. That being said, I did switch to my matte finish foundation to counteract all this recent increase in humidity. Not a fan of humidity!!
And here's the video where he talks about it. Exceptionally fine-milled, silky finish, doesn't alter colour of your foundation, suitable for all skin tones.
I do nowadays. I scored a COVER FX setting powder via an event last year & so far I'm really enjoying it, despite the colour being a bit too yellow for my skin (I got their Perfect Setting Powder – I think that's the name of it – in Light). If I use a light application I can get away with it though.
I've also got a mini Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder sitting in my stash unloved, largely because I've read reviews saying it's not great at keeping oils at bay. As someone with sensitive/combo skin who is oilier at this time of year, I figure that I should keep something like that powder for winter instead.
Want to try next Hourglass powder. Atm using Cover FX translucent that is soooo good. But since I wear makeup so rarely, I am getting a "travel" size (love mini makeup, no waste)
I don’t often use a setting powder, as I find that it doesn’t do any favours to my dry skin. Powder wise I use an Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder to set my concealer. I prefer a finishing powder over a setting powder. I absolutely love Guerlain Meteorites. They are expensive, but they last for a long time, and they look so pretty.
I wear as little foundation as possible when its hot and steamy I hate a heavy make-up feeling that makes me even more uncomfortable. I do wear powder when I want a really refined finish.
I love the Rimmel Stay matte but at the moment im using a finishing veil powder by Pur. It was given to me by a friend and it does its job but it hasnt wowed me so i would be happy to go back to the Rimmel once im done.
I have got a BareMinerals one, and the dregs of a MAC one. I have tried Laura Mercier and it’s lovely. But I think I’d spend just a little bit more and buy the Hourglass. I’ve used it in a few of the Mecca Beauty Lab classes. It is absolutely beautiful.
I usually don't use a setting powder but if I want my makeup look to last longer and remove any shine, I use Maybelline New York's Matte Maker Mattifying Powder and a large powder brush.
I always use loose setting powders, they make my makeup last all day and don't look cakey. The Laura Mercier one is as great as everyone says, and I'm using the Cle de Peau and Makeup Forever ones right now. I think I'll try the Hourglass one next.
There is a huge price range presented here from as low as $12 up to $70 for the Hourglass. I haven't used a setting powder for years as my skin is ageing and I didn't want further product in my fine lines. Reading the reviews on some of these I might reinvest in one of the lower priced products just to take the shine off. Maybe!
I use the Fit me pressed powder to set my makeup because I like a bit more coverage, especially under my eyes and translucent powder just doesn't do it.
It's an awesome powder and blurs really nicely, I just wish there was a luminous version.

I need a finishing powder that won't accentuate my pores

I bought it from adore beauty for $27 in 2017. Can't believe it's $12 now.
I've only ever tried the Rimmell one and didn't like it much. I don't use setting powders hardly ever
Yay for the RCMA powder. Also recommended by Wayne Goss
Edit: Actually the one recommended by Wayne Goss is the No Colour Powder, $12.

With the humidity at the moment I can't even be bothered wearing makeup
I need to try one of these to set my makeup, especially in this heat!
I do nowadays. Wow thanks for the info. Sounds like a goodie and so affordable.
I would love to try the Laura Mercier Powder.
I have never used a setting powder.

Handy to know but I'm not a powder fan. It makes me looks pasty and could be drying

I prefer a finishing powder over a setting powder. I absolutely love Guerlain Meteorites. They are expensive, but they last for a long time, and they look so pretty.
Definitely need to try Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder and Covergirl Staymatt so many to choose from.
The Laura Mercier powder is by far my favourite, but it sounds like I'll have to give the rimmel one a go based on the reviews!
Sounds good for the humid weather
I love the hydrating ones
RCMA I meant and Natio. Also used Laura Mercier in the past and is very good.
RMCA sounds great and I love Nation but have never tried the powder. On my list.
I wear as little foundation as possible when its hot and steamy I hate a heavy make-up feeling that makes me even more uncomfortable. I do wear powder when I want a really refined finish.
I use a discontinued physicians formula pressed powder as my setting powder.
I love the Rimmel Stay matte but at the moment im using a finishing veil powder by Pur. It was given to me by a friend and it does its job but it hasnt wowed me so i would be happy to go back to the Rimmel once im done.
These look lovely, would like to try.
I need to invest in a good setting powder. The Laura Mercier one is expensive but everyone seems to rave about it. Maybe I should try that.

I've never used a setting powder but I have my eye on the Natio Loose Powder or the RCMA Translucent Powder.
My daughter uses Rimmel Stay Matte and loves it.
lol Frenchy! I love funny typos! ; )
I bet that MAC one is awesome!
Thankyou jupiter!!
I always use loose setting powders, they make my makeup last all day and don't look cakey. The Laura Mercier one is as great as everyone says, and I'm using the Cle de Peau and Makeup Forever ones right now. I think I'll try the Hourglass one next.
I live in North Queensland , the humidity is high , good place to test them 🙂
I just got a mini size of the Hourglass one in a Beauty Loop Box.
I've been just using BB Cream
I haven't used powder since my early 20's
There is a huge price range presented here from as low as $12 up to $70 for the Hourglass. Reading the reviews on some of these I might reinvest in one of the lower priced products just to take the shine off. Maybe!
I am currently using Cover FX setting powder which is fantastic.
Mineral powder foundations work well in the heat, I find.
Wouldn't mind trying the Covergirl Matte Finishing Powder, actually there are several I would like to try.
The Laura Mercier one is absolutely worth it, it lasts for ages!
I use the Fit me pressed powder to set my makeup because I like a bit more coverage, especially under my eyes and translucent powder just doesn't do it.
It's an awesome powder and blurs really nicely, I just wish there was a luminous version.
I use fit me powder i used alot of other products but i find it really difficult to match my skin colour.
Rimmel London is my drugstore fave but loose powder wise, FitMe is next on my list to try. Everyone talks so highly about it.
Laura Mercier is such a classic one. Hourglass I've heard equally great reviews but never tried.
