Exxy products that are actually worth it

Life would be pretty damn sweet if we could splash out on every single beauty item we ever wanted. But sadly, that ain’t the case for most of us. So we have to make compromises on what we buy, treat ourselves in moderation, and look longingly at those products that seem way, way out of our budgets.

But sometimes – yes, sometimes – it’s okay to splurge on that beauty buy. It’s okay to stop and say, “Usually this is way out of my budget, but dammit, today I’m gonna treat myself goooood.”

And while you may already have an idea of what you want to splash out on (that list is probably 10 metres long), we also have some pretty excellent ideas.

Here are just a few of our fave products worth investing in – because if you’re spending your hard-earned money, you want to be one satisfied customer.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, from $95 (30mL)

Here are the stats: 96% of beautyheaven members who reviewed this anti-ageing serum gave it four or five stars out of five. Out of 136 reviews, it has an average star rating of 5/5. That many women can’t be wrong, so this goodie is definitely one worth trying.

Tom Ford Lip Color, $68

The packaging alone is heavenly enough, and the lipstick is divine. While it may not last from morning to night, the pigment is top-notch and it feels glorious to apply. Plus, every girl deserves a luxe lipstick.

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne, from $90 (30mL)

Although this is one of Jo Malone’s newer scents, it’s fast reaching cult status and has taken the best-selling spot from the Lime Basil and Mandarin Cologne. While it’s not exactly cheap per millilitre, you would not have one ounce (see what we did there?) of regret spritzing this bad boy.

ghd eclipse, $300

Okay, $300 sounds like a lot to spend on a straightener, but 1) the quality of a ghd straightener translates into years of use, so your cost per use will basically be nothing, and 2) the eclipse straightens like a dream, but the shape of it means it also helps to curl hair wonderfully. Basically it’s a two-in-one delight.

La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster, $335

This facial serum claims to reduce the depth and length of wrinkles in just two weeks, and it seems to be living up to that, with participants in the clinical trial seeing visible improvements in two to four weeks and women the world over impressed with the results. No wonder it’s selling like there’s no tomorrow…

Chanel La Vernis in Coquelicot, $39

A classic true-red polish is a must in every woman’s beauty bag. But a CHANEL red is next level. The sleek design, the iconic emblem, the ravishing red – it’s a beautiful combo you won’t regret.

Philips Pro Dryer, $199.95

If you have a better relationship with your hair tools than your partner, then this is the gift (to yourself) that keeps on giving. Not only will it dry your hair quicker than the rest, but its fancy technology helps to reduce hair damage and overheating, meaning your hair will feel softer and look healthier than ever.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $92

Kim Kardashian recently revealed this is one of her fave foundations, and she’s not alone, with hoards of women swearing by the formulation and finish. A must-try for those searching for a foundation that will give them a glow.

Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water Eau De Parfum, from $158 (50mL)

One of the best-sellers at Mecca, this fragrance has delish notes of bergamot, lemon, pepper and juniper berries. The scent manages to find the right balance between subtle and concentrated, meaning you’ll smell delightful all day without feeling like the notes are too overpowering.

Yves Saint Lauren Baby Doll Mascara, $52

With an average star rating of 5/5 on beautyheaven, it won’t take long to figure out why this mascara is worth the money. And if you need more convincing, check out how it transformed bh’s Carli’s lashes with just a few coats.

bhave hydrator moisturising shampoo and conditioner, $65.90 (together)

Do you put your hair through the wringer with heat styling and colouring? This shampoo and conditioner will be your saviour. Free from nasties and packed with nourishing and repairing ingredients, this duo is bound to leave your locks feeling silkier and softer than they have in years. Oh, and the brand is Australian-made!

LELO Elise 2, $209

Well, we said to treat yo’self, didn’t we? If self-loving is what you’re after, this full-bodied vibrator will deliver. And with eight different modes to choose from, we’re certain you’ll find one (or eight) ways to really treat yourself.

Rae Morris Radiance Brush, $110

When the queen of Australian make-up artists launches a make-up brush line, you need to get on it. There’s truly nothing better than the luxurious bristles and wondrous results from the Radiance Brush. Your foundation will never be blended in better or look more natural.

Diptyque Candle, $78

When it comes to luxury candles, Diptqyue is it. And the scents – no matter which one you pick – do not disappoint. Added bonus? Once your candle is burnt out, you can clean out the jar and use it as a cute decorative item.

What other products do you think are worth splashing out on? Have you tried any of these beauty buys?
