As one of the most beautiful women in the world, it’s hard to imagine a time when Eva Longoria felt anything but desired. However, during her most recent interview on the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat, the Desperate Housewives actress reflected back to her childhood where she grew up as the “ugly, dark one”.
And while this may sound overly harsh and incredibly traumatic, Eva gives context that it was said by her mum and family as a “term of endearment.” Whatever you say!
What Eva had to say about her childhood…
“All my three sisters were blonde and I was the only one that came out with black hair, dark skin [and] dark eyes,” she explained. “My sisters have these beautiful hazel eyes.”

“People would walk up to my mum and say ‘your daughters are so beautiful, and who is this?'”, she recalls, explaining strangers’ reactions when they were introduced to her as a kid.
And while majority of us have spent years trying to replicate Eva’s look, whether it’s by using her favourite mascara or testing out her go-to beauty treatment, she hasn’t always felt this desired.
“I wasn’t the pretty one, I grew up not the pretty one. So there was a conscious decision to be the funny one,” she recalled. This admission comes as a shock to fans considering Eva’s career has long portrayed her as exactly that: pretty! And pretty damn amazing overall.
It’s true what they say, insecurities don’t discriminate.
Though Eva now understands how this narrative has been flipped on its head, as the face of L’Oreal, she still laughs at the reaction of her sisters who say, “why’d they pick you?”.
In case she was ever at risk of letting the attention go to her head, Eva assured us, “there’s nothing like your family to ground you.”
Ain’t that the truth.

Have you listened to the complete podcast with Eva Longoria? Were you surprised by this story from her youth?
I like her positivity and having an alternative mindset
Yes, good on her!
I grew up as the milkman’s daughter. Blonde hair and blue eyes in a sea of brunette and brown eyes. Thankfully it never made me insecure or question who my father really was. I got his nose so there’s no doubt.
My two daughters are so different and were always said to be either the baker and butchers. !!!
This is surprising, but I like the way she decided how to deal with it.
Wow, if she was the ugly one, what do her sisters look like?
Agreed.
So she was adopted? Naah, joking. She looks normal to me
Can we get a list of words we can not type pl;ease lol
She’s always been a beauty and still is.
I think many of us would have stories to go with Eva’s and I look forward to listening to it all.
I love her dark exotic look.
Haven’t listened to this one yet.
A happy kind personality will win me over every time.
Too right, she is lovely as well though
Eva is so lovely
Wow that really does surprise me, she’s beautiful
She has made this remark a few times over the years. Surprised she is still banging on about it.
Not heard the podcast, not really interested but she is a fine looking woman
Grr, too many comments end up being moderated. It really is getting tiresome. It’s unfair that there are no guidelines about what we can/can’t say!
Everyone has their own story.
A good story. For me she is beautiful.
It’s funny that the emotional baggage from the way others defined us in our teens can last well into adulthood.
Amazing that she could ever be thought of as ‘not the pretty one’
Beautiful in her own right
She’s way too cute and everyone loves her. I would like to check her sisters out now. 😀
My daughter is entering her teens, and I tell her these sorts of stories to prove that everyone feels ugly at some point as a teen!
Ugly? her mother needed glasses.
She is gorgeous! I can’t believe people would say that about a child
It would be interesting to see a picture of her as a child, I bet she was still gorgeous just different to her sisters. I had a friend with twin boys who looked like they were a few years apart and had different parents!
She always looks lovely.
She is pretty inside and out!
She is so stunning, cant believe people called her that.
