Essential travel make-up tips

Essential travel make-up tips

As some of you know, I travelled overseas last year. It was beyond amazing! One thing that I tried being really conscious about was the amount of make-up I was going to take with me, because I knew I was going to buy more stuff while I was away.

So here are things that I was going to take: primer, foundation, setting powder, bronzer, blush, gel eyeliner and pencil eyeliner, mascara, an eyeshadow palette, two lipliners and three lipsticks.

Then panic set in, so I packed a few more things. To be precise this consisted of way too many eyeshadows, two more blushes (in case I wanted a different shade), three more eye pencils (that I didn’t use at all), another two mascaras and a few more lipsticks. Not that I use them very often at home, but still, I’d be miles away and what if I really wanted to use them?! It was better to be prepared, right? Well, wrong…

Anyways, I was set and ready to go! I boarded my plane, I got off the plane and waited for the connecting one… And there was a bit of duty free time-killing activity. So I ended up buying three Lancôme Rouge in Love lipsticks (thank you, bh, for introducing these to me), a mascara and eyeliner set, and a blush! This was before I got to my destination.

And then when I landed and my holiday began, I used my make-up, of course I did! And I used the Lancôme lippies a lot – so that was a fantastic buy! But truth be told, I didn’t really use all (or any) of that stuff I manically shoved into my suitcase later on to have with me in case I needed it.

I bought so much make-up while travelling that I would have easily survived with just bringing my foundation, primer and setting powder and buying everything else – that’s if you want to buy make-up overseas (and given that you are on beautyheaven and reading this – well, you probably do). And let’s be honest here, make-up is cheaper overseas, so you won’t feel as guilty to go crazy and buy lots of stuff!

Chances are if you bring fewer make-up products with you, you will look for more things over there and you will find new HG products (Maybelline BB, I am talking to you!).  And trust me, I bought so much that it was really hard not going over the weight limit at the check in on the way back!

The point of the story is this: plan what you need to bring and stick to it! Don’t panic and bring more – you won’t use it. And remember: if you don’t use it at home, you won’t use it overseas either.

My tip is to bring your Holy Grail products. You’ve searched for them forever and you know there’s nothing else better out there, so bring them so you don’t stress.

And at the end of the day, don’t take my word as gospel – do what makes you most comfortable!
