Our favourite time of the year is officially here. And hey, you might think we’re crazy for putting Halloween above Christmas. But in our humble opinion, October 31 is a beauty lover’s dream. Our reasoning? Halloween makeup.
When else can we put our most colourful eyeshadow palettes to good use, paint our faces with gruesome art, and cover ourselves in glitter in the name of a costume? It’s the one night of the year when we can truly go all-out in the makeup department – and spooky nails, too.
But if you’re a last-minute operator (us too, TBH), whipping up a costume, let alone coming up with a unique makeup look, is probably the last thing on your mind. So we’ve rounded up nine easy Halloween makeup looks to save you from a last-minute dash to the costume store – no special effects needed.
Easy Halloween makeup ideas
Weird Barbie
It’s the year of the Barbie movie, so of course Barbie-inspired costumes are going to be absolutely everywhere. So recreating Weird Barbie’s iconic messy makeup look is almost too easy. You’ll just need some colourful liquid eyeshadow, black liquid liner and an artistic touch – oh, and having your kids draw on your face will make it all the more authentic.
Medusa
Don’t throw those fishnet stockings away just yet – you’ll need them to create your snakeskin scales. This look is all about green and gives you the perfect excuse to whip out your colourful eyeshadow palettes.
Wednesday Addams
Simple? Yes. Instantly recognisable? Absolutely. Wednesday Addams’ death-like pallor and vampy lips are best complemented by long pigtails and major attitude. Bonus points for special effects hand makeup to mimic Thing.
Clown
If you’re looking for a look you can create in 10 minutes, this is it. Grab the black eyeliner or some face paint and go for gold. Make it cute with some face gems or add some fake blood for a killer clown twist – Halloween is supposed to be scary, after all!
Spider witch
If you’ve got a spare teeth flosser lying around, here’s your chance to put it to good use. This genius hack will help you create a near-perfect spider web and is perfect for last-minute Halloween makeup.
Priscilla Presley
The new Priscilla movie is set to hit US cinemas (and hopefully Australia, too!) on October 27, so we anticipate seeing a few takes on Priscilla Presley’s iconic look come Halloween. If you’ve mastered winged eyeliner, recreating Priscilla’s ’60s glam will be a walk in the park. If not, here’s the perfect chance to practice.
Vampire
Edward Cullen, but make it glam. This look might take a little more time, but the results are well worth it. Drip on some fake blood, add a few rhinestones and voila – a glittery, vampy masterpiece.
Porcelain doll
It’s not your traditional Halloween makeup, but this look is perfect for a last-minute costume and you’ll likely already have everything you need to recreate it. There is one rule of thumb for the look though – you can never have too much pink blush…
Black swan
Embrace your dark side with a smokey Black Swan look. Reach for your darkest, smokiest eyeshadow palette, swipe on a touch of shimmer and top it off with some faux feathers. Oh, and if you’re feeling a little extra, red contacts will seal the deal.
Will you be trying any of these Halloween makeup looks?!
