The Difference A Primer Can Make To Your Makeup Routine

Primer is one of those makeup products that some people swear by while others have no qualm in skipping the step altogether.

But we’re here to show you that if you find a primer that works for your skin type and goals, it can make a big difference.

Watch the video above to see how bh’s Sam and bh’s Aja select and use a primer that’s best suited to them. Because while primers are great for extending the wear of your makeup, they can also tackle some skin concerns right from the start.

For Sam, she’s all about hydration and glow as her skin is dry and dull. For Aja, who is redness prone, a little colour-correcting before foundation goes a long way.

And if you’re interested in the products they’ve used, you can read reviews on each of them here:

  1. Primers really do make a difference to your skin! I’ve never tried the NBN ones. At the moment I’m using Bobbi Brown (the yellow one, in the jar), but it’s almost run out, and the Stila One Step Correct (multi coloured one) from Mecca. I’ve always liked this one, and always seem to go back to it.

  2. Both Sam and Aja look beautiful and it does make such a difference. Myself Personally I need to use a Primer that helps take away redness and enlarged pores on my nose as well. But like Sam I would like to have some radiance.

Wondering if you can use different Primers on different parts of your Face ???

  3. YES YOU CAN!! As an ex MUA, I remember using more moisturising primers on lower cheeks etc and mattifying on the oily t zone with combination skin. Ditto with colour correctors – anti-redness (green or yellow) on red areas and radiance boosting (violet or apricot) to balance and brighten skin tone.

  4. RINNY Primers will become your friend. BH introduced me to them a few years ago so I went off to my local Pharmacy who had a Makeup Artist working that day (that was just luck I turned up that day). She took me around the store to show me the different types available and her current fav.
I use primer to even out my skin so that it’s smooth & to hold my foundation in place (especially good in Summer).

  5. Yes RINNY. I mostly use BB cream but do wear foundation at times.
I apply sunscreen, then primer, then BB cream (or foundation). Primer is great for keeping my concealer in place too.
