Crank up your confidence

Crank up your confidence

With all the long-limbed models strutting by me backstage at Fashion Week the past two days, I couldn’t help but feel my shoulders morph into a self-conscious slump. Suddenly, my five-foot-something physique didn’t seem as tall as it once did. It didn’t even feel average.

So yesterday, backstage at Alice McCall, I thought I’d do a couple of things to crank my confidence back up a notch. I threw on my very best fashionable-yet- professional-writer blazer, and teamed it with my favourite black wedges (again, trendy but very ‘I’m-a-serious-journalist-so-take-me-seriously-please’). Talk about a Bridget Jones moment, eh?

I slicked my straight locks back into a low ponytail, which looked sleek enough, without seeming as preened and sculptured as the manicured models.
Make-up wise, as much as I was craving a colour-crazy look similar to that from the Camilla show (think blue shadow up to the eyebrows), I instead opted for a subtle slick of purple creamy shadow (Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Rock Violet to be exact), and teamed it with a punchy pink lip. The quiet nods in my direction from the various MAC make-up artists around the room confirmed my look was a winning one, and made me feel like a million dollars!

How do you crank up your confidence?
