Clear mascara. Some might say (OK, I might say) that it’s the white jellybean of the mascara world. Nobody holds a particular disdain for it. But you’d never actually choose it.

However, we are hereby issuing an official apology to clear mascara aka the humble, unassuming, multipurpose underdog of eye makeup. It is actually one of the most versatile products in our makeup bag.
Here’s one we love: DB Cosmetics Clear Mascara.
Here’s all the ways we’ve been using it.
Eyebrow gel
For those with fuller, darker brows that don’t need the colour from a tinted gel,a coat of clear mascara provides a brushed-up, fluffy and structured brow.
If your brow hairs are far and few between, swipe on some clear mascara after filling in any gaps with an eyebrow pencil.

Lash enhancer
Create the length and definition you’d get from your regular mascara, but without the colour.
It was after using her clear mascara that Beyoncé wrote her infamous line “I woke up like this”*.
*That didn’t happen. But you get the drift.

Control flyaways
It can also keep any rogue hairs from ruining your sleek ‘do.
Your clear mascara spoolie is the perfect tool to control smaller areas without ruining your hairstyle or having to use too much product in areas it’s not needed.
Lash primer
Waterproof mascara removal can often result in a few eyelash casualties.
A coat of clear mascara before applying your waterproof mascara can act as a primer. Leaving you with a smudge-free result that comes off as easily as it went on.

Do you have a clear mascara in your beauty bag?
I love this idea
I have such pathetically sparse and tiny lashes, I need the dark pigment as I look like no lashes. However, I like the other uses for clear mascara.
Never had one. I do need blackest black though only for my non visible lashes. Brows are good, do not touch
It reminds me of when I was in high school. We used to use Vasiline petroleum jelly for our eyelashes. After I had finished school I used this to brush up my eyebrows by dipping an old toothbrush into the Vasiline. Cheap & effective. Now that my eyebrows are sparse I have to use brow mascara.
Yes clear mascara is great for brows and for your lashes when you don’t feel like wearing makeup
I was thinking of swapping from black to brown, but clear looks good too
I wasn’t aware of clear mascara. It would probably work ok my lashes but I need colour on my brows.
I tried clear mascara years ago & it didn’t do much. I used it up as an eyebrow gel, but I’d prefer a pigmented one.
Might have to get myself down to the DB counter!!
Ive never owned a clear mascara and to be honest ive never even thought about it until now….now I want one… 😀
Ah – I have used clear mascara for years as a top coat. It stops my black mascaras from smudging under my eye – nothing else works for me!
I have clear mascara, sometimes I use it on my eyelashes but usually on my eyebrows.
oooh I need a clear mascara now.
I could see myself using clear mascara for both my lashes and flyaways.
Haven’t bought Clear Mascara in years but it certainly is a great all round product to use as a primer and as an eyebrow gel.
Clear mascara has been around for a very long time, there are lots of great tips for use in this article Xx
I’m aware that clear mascara exists, but I’ve never used it.
huh didn’t know something like it existed.
I use clear eye brow gel because my brows are naturally dark and dense so I don’t need to add extra pigment.
Haven’t used clear mascara since I was a teenager & didn’t know it still existed!
I used it as a teenager and didn’t realise you could still buy it.
I used to love to set my lashes with clear mascara. Also use as a brow tamer too.
I didn’t know there even was a such a thing.
I’ve been using clear mascara on my eyebrows for years! Australis and Essie have great clear mascaras for cheap
I seem to recall I had one years ago. I like the idea of all its other uses as I’d always use coloured mascara on my lashes.
I think I have one somewhere… need to dig it out. Great reminder!
I haven’t used clear mascara since I was a teen, but it sounds like it might be worth giving it another try.
good to know!
I have one in my stash which I should use more regularly. I like the idea of applying it as a lash primer.
That sounds like a very good idea Jupiter. I’ve stopped wearing mascara as I couldn’t stop it from smudging. This may work for me!
I think that this sounds like a product that has many uses
My lashes need a black mascara, but I’d never thought of these uses for clear mascara
Great tips. I remember using it as a teenager.

Wow! I didn’t know there was clear mascara. I really like the colour though! You can just use a little bit to be more natural. Clear does have many uses though.
Ooh great tips, I never thought clear mascara would be so useful
Ooh that’s interesting how many different modes we can use clear mascara for. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a clear one, but tempted to get one now.
Clear mascara is great to use as a brow gel or just to give your lashes that wet look.
I use it for my brows to keep rebel hairs in place.
Omg I haven’t used clean mascara since I was a teenager now that was back years ago.
Didn’t know that this even existed!!! Cool!!!
Thanks for the good advice jupiter. I have never thought about applying mascara this way. I will try your method but will have to wait until I can buy some clear mascara.
Some good tips here, thank you 🙂
Hi Marclaire, I actually got this tip off a friend years ago and it’s worked really well for me – someone who gets under eye smudges/shadows even with waterproof mascara sometimes. So I apply the black mascara, then fold a tissue under the top lash and kind of blink onto the tissue so that the excess on the lashes are transferred onto the tissue, then apply clear top coat. I hope it works for you too 🙂
My brow hairs are so unruly that I need something industrial strength to keep them in place. I doubt that clear mascara would work.
I really must try clear mascara, especially under my normal mascara. I’ve heard that by doing this it can stop smudging.
