Christmas eye make-up inspiration

Without a doubt, December is my favourite month of the year – there’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations of course, but it’s also the official start of the warmer weather (bare feet yay!), and invariably the time when I can relax and take a couple of weeks break from work. Which is probably just as well as it’s party season, and for once I can indulge in the odd late night here and there without the burden of having to get up at the crack of dawn next morning to catch a train.

Summer holidays mean heaps more time to play in my favourite place – eye makeup-land! So, inspired by baubles, tinsel and all things sparkly, I’ve put together some party looks that are super easy to achieve. So here we go…

Christmas Cracker

Nothing says ‘I’m Santa-ready’ more than red and green. Not a colour combination I normally go for, but hey, it’s Christmas after all, and that means anything goes. I used Maybelline New York EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Pomegranate Punk all over the top lid as a base, and applied a bold red from the Designer Brands Glam Clutch palette over the top. Underneath I used a Pop Glitter Stix in the shade Moss – this is such a festive little crayon as it has teeny specks of silver glitter embedded in the product.

Under the Mistletoe

Hopefully this look will get you a smooch from someone you fancy. There’s no daring required here, just a sense of fun and a pretty green shadow or two. For starters, I laid down the same Pop Glitter Stix in Moss as the base, over that went Graffiti & Peace from the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box, and I deepened the outer corner with Fern from the Sleek V2 Matte palette. And just because it’s Christmas, I slicked some Chi Chi Glitter Eye Liner in Scene Queen along the top lash-line.

Gilded Berry

What’s Christmas without a splash of shimmery gold? I used a base of essence White Kajal here, as well as raspberry from the L.A.Colors Wildflowers palette blended with a smidgin of orange from bhcosmetics First Edition 120 palette. This fabulous gold is called Honey by Urban Decay, and it comes in their Deluxe Shadow Box.

Silent Night

A summer evening sky dotted with twinkling stars was my inspiration for this look. For a base I applied Maybelline New York EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Metal Cream Gel Shadow in Electric Blue, then added the deepest blue from the BYS Intense Pigments palette. The sparkly effect is courtesy of MAC Glitter in Reflects Bronze. I’ve had this little jar for months and have been saving it up specifically for the end of year celebrations. It’s just the most exquisite glitter – unbelievably fine (I’d call it fairy dust) and a thin layer gives the prettiest sparkle with added dimension. Sure there’s a bit of fallout, but because the particles are so fine it doesn’t matter a fig, even if some stray specks end up on your cheeks.

Pink ‘n’ Teal

If a Christmas colour scheme isn’t your thing, here’s a couple of party pastels. As you know I’m usually a bold colour fan, but I love this look – it’s just so girly and feminine. Once again I used Maybelline New York EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Pomegranate Punk as a base, and added L’Oreal Infallible Naughty Strawberry over the top (adore the name of this shadow!). For the lower lashline and outer corners, I applied a shimmery teal from the BYS Diamond Shadow Colour Conga palette and blended it with Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Tempting Teal.

I so look forward to my monthly gig on bh – to all members and staff at beautyheaven, may your Christmas be a safe and happy one, and may 2014 be kind and generous to you and your loved ones.

Take care of you,
kats xxx
