Picking the right shade of foundation can be tricky. You think you’ve got yourself a winner, and then you get toapplying it a day later and suddenly it’s about five shades off.
To combat this #firstworldproblem, we’ve put together some handy tips that’ll help you to pick the perfect shade every single time. Just watch the video above!
Or if you don’t have time (or can’t), check out the tips below:
How to test your foundation
So many people test their foundation on the back of their hands, but this is actually a huge no-no.
To get a true colour match, your best bet is to test the foundation on your face (preferably on clean skin), on the area between your cheek and jawline.
By testing your foundation on this area, you’re most likely to pick a shade that matches your face, neck and chest.
How to choose your foundation shade
Pick three shades that you think are likely to be a match. The best way to do this is to grab the shade you think is closest to your skin tone, as well as one shade above and below it.
Apply each shade on your skin from your cheek down to your jawline and blend. The shade that disappears is your perfect match.
Where to test your foundation
The lighting in department stores, chemists and even your home can affect how the foundation looks on your skin, so ideally, try to find natural light to assess the foundation match.
Look to technology, too
Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation, the foundation used in the video above, features Smart Tone technology, which means the foundation works to mimic the texture and tone of your skin. Pretty cool.
