3 make-up looks for beauty on a budget

The most important thing when creating a make-up look on a budget is getting your base right. Once you nail that, you’ll look a million bucks – no matter how much you actually spend.

Once we pinpointed the best foundations for these three bh team members, everything else fell into place – and under budget. Find out how to create the same beauty looks below without breaking the bank…

Rosie – DAY TO NIGHT WITH FLAWLESS SKIN

The first step to a flawless foundation finish is to consider your skin type, in order to pick the right formula. Rosie is lucky enough to have normal skin, so we began by applying Rimmel London’s Match Perfection Foundation. The soft focus powders in the formula helped to blur her pores, while the added bonus of SPF 20 offered protection throughout the day. The lightweight finish is ideal for comfortable all-day wear and for any imperfections, we simply layered Rimmel London Match Perfection Concealer and Highlighter over the top for extra coverage.

For a simple, yet effective eye look, we used gold eyeliner to line the lower lash line and shade the inner corner of the eye, and then a bronze shade for the outer corner (we used Rimmel London’s Magnif’Eyes Double Ended Shadow & Liner in Queens of the Bronzed Age). Rosie’s day look was finished with Rimmel London Wonder’full Mascara With Argan Oil and a sweep of blush on the cheeks.

Rosie’s base lasted well throughout the day, so when it came to transitioning her look from day to night it was simply a matter of defining the eyes further, touching up her blush and adding some lipstick. We lined the lower lash line and eyelid with black liner and then layered over the bronze shadow with charcoal for a smoky effect. Rimmel London’s Magnif’Eyes came out to play again, but this time in the shade Back to Blacks. For her lips we used Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in 006 Pink Blush – and she was ready to take on the night!

Total cost = $96.70

Caitlin – TRENDY LINER WITH MATTE SKIN

A matte finish can be tricky to achieve on an oily complexion, without it turning into a dreaded ‘cake face’. So when it came to matching a foundation to Caitlin’s skin, we went with Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation – the lightweight liquid mousse left her skin shine-free all day, without feeling or looking heavy. We then set it with the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder for extra staying power.

For Caitlin’s trendy winged liner, we used Rimmel London’s Colour Precise Eyeliner in Black, creating a thin line from the centre of her eye to the outer corner. Then using the same liner (this time in the blue shade), we created a thicker line, flicking it out past the eyelid to create a wing. To complete the eyes, we applied Rimmel London 24HR SuperCurler Mascara.

To keep the focus of Caitlin’s look on her eyes and flawless skin, we kept the rest of her make-up to a minimum, adding just a touch of blush and a nude lip (we used Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Lasting Finish Nude Collection Lipstick in 43).

Total cost = $85.70

Kym – BOLD LIP WITH HYDRATED SKIN

When it comes to dry skin, there are a few key requirements to look for in a foundation. It should be hydrating and comfortable on the skin, but also last without settling into dry areas or lines. In order to get the best results for Kym (whose skin is on the drier side), we prepped her skin using Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish Primer, followed by Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation with Comfort Serum. The combination of the primer and long-lasting foundation formula ensured Kym’s make-up didn’t budge throughout the day, plus the comfort serum in the foundation left her skin instantly hydrated.

With Kym’s skin looking hydrated and fresh, we applied a pop of colour to her lips using Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in 107. Her skin was already glowing, so only the slightest amount of blush was needed and then we finished off the look with some Rimmel London Wonder’full Mascara With Argan Oil.

Total cost = $64.80
