The emotions you experience when applying false lashes

False lashes have the power to transform an ordinary make-up look into something glamorous – but the struggle is real, it’ll cost you your sanity.

Seriously though, if any of you out there can apply them perfectly every time, TELL US YOUR SECRETS. Because the rest of us usually end up going through this rollercoaster of emotions:

Stage 1: Excitement

It’s always an optimistic beginning: false lashes at the ready, glue successfully opened, tweezers on stand-by and the hope that Katy Perry-like peepers are only a few minutes away.

Stage 2: Intense concentration

Trimming the lashes to the best size can be make or break for the end result. Measuring and cutting both strips precisely to the millimetres is so intense, you sometimes forget to breathe.

Stage 3: Struggle

Time to pick up your lashes with your applicator tool (bh loves Ardell Dual Lash Applicator, but you can also just use tweezers). Unfortunately lashes are slippery little suckers and it can be a real struggle to grip them properly.

Stage 4: Frustration

False lashes should be applied at the base of your lashes and not on your eyelid – but it’s easier said than done. With one eye closed, the pressure of drying glue and trying not to smudge your eye make-up – you’re a miracle worker if you manage to get it on the first try.

The majority of us are left reapplying glue and trying up to 500 times to get it in the right spot. (Thankfully most lash glues dry clear, even if you end up using multiple coats.)

Top tip: Try applying your mascara after your lashes to avoid unecessary smudging. We like asap pure mineral mineral mascara – the brush head is great for seperating your lashes (especially if they’ve become a little stuck together from the glue.)

Stage 5: Blindness

Too much glue + too long with your eye closed = an eyelid that has been stuck shut.

Stage 6: Panic

When you can’t see out of one eye and your fingers are too sticky from the glue to prise your eye open, a slight freak out is inevitable.

Stage 7: Relief

Deep breaths, clean hands and some extreme eyelid strength enables you to see again.

Stage 8: Determination

False lashes WILL NOT defeat you. You reset them in your tweezers, put on just a smidge more glue and apply them for the final time.

Stage 9: Acceptance

The left one is most definitely stuck to your eyelid and the right is too long – but they’re on.
