For those who love a red carpet moment, you’ll be well aware that The Academy Awards (fondly known as the Oscars) are usually held in February each year.
But although originally scheduled for the 28th February 2021, this year’s event has been postponed due to COVID-19 until the 25th of April.
So to fill the glitz and glamour hole that’s been left in its traditional month of February, we thought we’d throw it back to all the past Oscars red carpets and the iconic beauty looks it’s served us over the years.
Ready to go to Hollywood? Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the best Oscars beauty looks of all time…
1955: Grace Kelly
Winning Best Actress for her role in The Country Girl , Grace Kelly looked divine with her hair pulled into an updo (adorned with flowers no less) and a muted red lip.
1969: Barbara Streisand
The hair, the floating ‘60s graphic eye, the lip liner! Barbara Streisand embodied an entire era when she took home the gong for Funny Girl in 1969.
Recreate her incredible eye makeup using our favourite: Maybelline New York Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner .
1970: Elizabeth Taylor
Proof that trends always come around again, Elizabeth Taylor was a vision in head-to-toe lilac in 1970, including her eyeshadow.
Try: Elizabeth Arden Little Black Compact in ‘Touch of Lavender’.
1980: Meryl Streep
She’s walked countless red carpets since and we’ve loved her every time, but the rosy cheeks and blonde ringlets of a young Meryl Streep are hard to beat.
We wonder how they got such glowing skin back then without the LUMISKIN™ Hana Compact Sonic Beauty Device around…
1983: Cher
There are countless iconic Cher-at-the-Oscars looks to choose from, but when it comes to hair and makeup, this curly masterpiece with blue and pink striped eyes takes the cake.
1999: Gwyneth Paltrow
Winning the Oscar for Shakespeare In Love , Gwyneth paired her skinny strap dress with a slicked-back style and let her skin shine. Want to know the secret to her glow? She swears by dry body brushing.
Try: Bodecare Tampico Dry Body Brush
2001: Julia Roberts
Now this ponytail had volume . And apparently hair can take you to new heights, as this was Julia’s first Oscar win for Erin Brockovich .
2002: Halle Berry
We’ll never forget Halle Berry’s shock reaction when she beat out Hollywood royalty Renée Zellweger, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and Sissy Spacek for Best Actress. And we’ll never forget the face-flattering pixie cut that accompanied it either.
2004: Charlize Theron
Platinum blonde hair, spray tan and barely-there brows. It must be the early ‘00s.
2009: Jennifer Aniston
We can’t name a time Jen didn’t nail the red carpet, but this year she was absolutely radiant.
Want to nail a nude lip just like it? Try Eros Omorphos Nude Beige in ‘Nude Salmon’.
2006: Michelle Williams
A bold red lip on the red carpet may be nothing new, but matching it with a canary yellow gown makes this look from Michelle Williams damn memorable.
2007: Cate Blanchett
Cate’s always a 10 out of 10 but we particularly loved this gun metal look on her, with defined eyes to match.
2012: Angelina Jolie
Most people remember this moment for the thigh split. We remember it for the dewy red lip and sultry smokey eye.
2012: Rooney Mara
The same year, Rooney Mara pulled out this show-stopping fringe and brow combo.
2014: Lupita Nyong’O
It was the headband that broke the Internet (seriously, it sold out everywhere), and the makeup look that stole our hearts.
2017: Emma Stone
There is so much to love about this look we don’t even know where to start. The glossy wave, the reddish-coral lip, the bronze-terracotta eye. We bow down to you Emma Stone (or at least, to your makeup artist).
2018: Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer’s fearlessly winged out eyeshadow look was the masterpiece of makeup artist Hung Vanngo. It worked like magic paired with a terracotta lip.
2018: Margot Robbie
Another actress with many stand-out red carpet moments, but it’s the short blunt bob and ethereal eye makeup for us. Not to mention, that skin .
For a similar lit-from-with glow, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat is our go-to.
2020: Janelle Monae
Who needs hair accessories when you have a built-in bedazzled hood as part of your gown? The pop of colour on Janelle’s pout only sealed the deal.
Did we miss anyone? What’s your favourite Oscars red carpet moment?
I don't have a favourite – all the women are beautiful in their own unique way.
Oh to be a movie star with all the finery that goes with the fame. A huge task to maintain that red carpet glamour though.
Love all these women
