best foundation for mature skin

It’s no secret that our skin changes as we get older. It only makes sense that our beauty routines have to change too.

With age you discover that full-coverage foundations do little to disguise your wrinkles, and it’s smarter to switch to a base product that’s better suited to your concerns.

For some, this may mean finding a foundation that plumps the complexion with a serious boost of hydration, while others may be in pursuit of a youthful-looking glow.

Lucky for us, we’ve got a database of reviews from women of all ages and skin concerns to help us find the right match for you. So if you’re on the hunt for a new foundation that fits the ‘my skin isn’t what it used to be’ bill, you’ve come to the right place.

The Best Foundations For Mature Skin 2025

Best Radiant Foundation: Revlon Illuminance Glow™ Filter

from $17.50 at Big W

Kind of a primer, kind of a foundation, kind of an illuminator, this unique base product creates a sheer veil of blurred, light-reflecting coverage. It’s barely detectable on skin, simply perfecting and enhancing as needed, plus, it won’t accentuate fine liens and wrinkles.

Review: “I’m typically not a foundation wearer. I tend to use concealer where its needed, highlighter and bronzer and that’s it. As I’ve gotten older I find that I need less on my skin, because of texture and lines. I like my skin to feel comfortable and not like I have layers on my face. What I love about the Revlon Glow Filter is that it feels like skincare on the skin. It’s lightweight on the skin and gives my skin a beautiful healthy glow. It doesn’t look like I have makeup on.” — Ageless.beauty

Best For Dry Skin: L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum

from $22.49 at Amazon Australia

If makeup tends to dry your skin out, accentuating your dry patches, fine lines and wrinkles, then you need to be introduced to this hybrid foundation formula from L’Oréal. Infused with a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, it works to keep skin moisturised, plump, bouncy, and youthful-looking.

Review: “A total game changer if you’re looking for a mix of skincare and makeup. The formula feels super light, almost like you’re just applying a serum, but it also gives pretty decent coverage like a foundation, which I didn’t expect. It’s not full coverage, but it evens out your skin tone and gives a really nice, radiant finish that looks natural and glowy — not shiny. The best part, though, is how hydrating it is. It’s packed with hyaluronic acid, which is awesome for keeping your skin feeling moisturised all day, and it actually makes my skin look more plumped and refreshed after just a little while. They say it visibly re-plumps your skin in one hour, and honestly, I did notice my skin looking a little smoother and more hydrated pretty quickly. It blends in really easily, and it doesn’t settle into dry patches or fine lines like some other foundations do.” — lieliemoon

It leaves skin with a dewy, radiant, fresh finish for up to 24 hours after application. Plus, it’s infused with a blend of hydrating hyaluronic acid and smoothing mandelic acid.

Review: “The coverage is buildable and it doesn’t sit in my fine lines, lasts all day, and doesn’t dry out my skin… it actually makes my skin look flawless. It’s more than I’d usually spend on foundation in these times but I do believe it’s the most important tool in my makeup kit and worth every penny. My skin has been really good since using it with no breakouts or dryness… I’m in my 40’s and it’s complimentary for mature skin.” — Tanz Dee

  1. I prefer a light luminous coverage without SPF (like to use separate one under foundation because of my sensitive skin.) Lusting after YSL. Only tried the It CC out of this lot and I’m not a fan. Found it too heavy and difficult to blend.

  2. I would love to discover one great for my skin at 37 I am finding a lot enhance the look of lines and my foundation is starting to looking dry and seperate even with primers, skincare prep etc.

  3. I use this Lancôme foundation. Mine lasts a long time. So much so when I went into Myer with the shade I wanted Lancôme had changed from colours to numbers. I had to find someone in Myer to find the right shade for me. Not easy in my Myer because they don’t have Beauty Consultants at each branded desk. Not sure why not.
