There are plenty of cosmetic tips and tricks to disguise flaws and enhance natural beauty, but with make-up comes a plethora of possibilities – and the potential to make serious slip-ups. Here’s a few faux pas’ you’ll want to avoid at all costs – plus how to prevent them.
Bronzer application that looks more Oompa Loompa than golden goddess
Firstly, always begin by tapping your bronzer brush on the back of your hand or the edge of the bathroom sink – this will remove any bronzer build up which, added to a new application of bronzer, could result in more of an orange-u-tan look than bronzed beauty.
Secondly, if applying primer or moisturiser (which, of course, you do religiously), ensure you allow it time to fully dry before popping on your powder bronzer. If you don’t, the bronzer particles won’t sweep as easily and evenly and may stick to the moisturiser, resulting in patchy distribution and once more we’re back to the Oompa Loompa look.
Too much concealer on dark circles
In a desperate bid to disguise those bags don’t fall into the trap of whacking on copious amounts of concealer – this will only serve to emphasize your dark circles. Instead, use a light concealer on the darkest areas only, blend, and apply a little illuminator to brighten the eye area.
Masking tired peepers with mascara
It’s true that a coat of mascara can open eyes, making them look brighter – but don’t overdo it: mascara applied to the lower lashes can, in fact, emphasize crow’s feet and bags, making eyes look older and tired. The solution: use blackest black on your top lashes and a white eye pencil on your bottom rim as this will whiten and brighten eyes. Curl lashes too, as this creates the illusion of a more opened eye, making your peepers look more awake.
Piling on foundation for complexion perfection
This is a big beauty no, no. It’s easy to get carried away with foundation when our face is looking far from fresh but, in actual fact, bare is more beautiful. Heavy make-up can draw attention to dark circles and imperfections, or give you the dreaded ‘cake face’ look, so instead, opt for a hydrating spray to enliven skin and over the top apply a light, tinted moisturiser or mix a liquid illuminator with a light moisturiser. Add a little bronzer and a touch of pink blush on the apples of cheeks and your skin will glow far more than if it’s smothered with thick foundation.
