Life as a university student is wonderful but tough, especially for those who have left the nest and are braving the world on their own. With rent, fees, textbooks, food, and transport, things tend to get expensive pretty quickly. This leaves us with very little money left for “luxuries”. And with all the great parties, outings, and social events that come with being a student, make-up often tops the “must-have” list. With a tight budget, there is only one way to optimise our spending: buy multi-tasking products!
Swap your sunscreen, moisturiser and foundation for a bottle of BB cream. There are so many good ones on the market now and there will be more to come. Most have additional benefits such as brightening your complexion and repairing sun damaged areas of the skin. A good BB cream would be one from Missha, which you can buy online, or the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream, which you can pick up from your local pharmacy.
The next item may seem more like a splurge than a saving, but it’s such a great multi-tasker that I think it’s worth it in the long run. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks can be used as a blush, eye shadow or highlighter/illuminator. The colours are relatively neutral so they can be used for practically any look!
Tints and stains are very good multi-tasking products as well. You can apply them on your cheeks and lips. The one I use is Benefit Benetint. Glamourflage also has a lovely lip/cheek stain (Glamourflage Sultry Sophie Lip/Cheek Stain) and it’s not as pricey. If tints and stains aren’t your style, lipsticks can do similar things. Simply dab/dot a little onto your cheeks and blend it out. To avoid looking like a clown, don’t pick colours that are too strong. Lovely matte pinks should do the trick.
So the saying “less is more” is true after all. Another plus to having very few but very good products is that you can easily take them with you everywhere. Also you will spend less time rummaging through your make-up drawers or bags and spend more time enjoying student life!
What are your favourite multi-tasking products? I’d love to learn of more…
