At the ripe ‘young’ age of 33 I’m starting to see a few telltale signs of ageing staring back at me each time I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Initial reaction: sharp intake of breath before quickly yanking out that unsightly grey hair and dabbing a little illuminator on those dark under-eye circles. But I figure I have two options – obsess, driving everyone around me mad, or take a considered approach and start doing all the reasonable things in my power to help put the brakes on ageing (aka: ageing gracefully!).
The obvious response to spotting a fine line on your face might be to pile on the make-up in a desperate attempt to conceal it. Unfortunately too much make-up can have the opposite effect on ageing skin and can in fact make the skin look worse. This is where the saying ‘less is more’ comes into play. Make it your mantra for ageing gracefully. Here are a few tips to help you along the way…
1.) Instead of caking on multiple cosmetics that each have different benefits, use a make-up multi-tasker, such as Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup, as the cream foundation incorporates age management technology usually reserved for skin care. For example, it combines good guys vitamin E and B3 with ceramide complex to help protect the skin’s DNA and maintain hydration, while also masking skin discolouration and imperfections. Sounds more like an anti-ageing skin cream than make-up, right? Well that’s because it’s a bit of both! Caring for your skin while also covering the initial signs of ageing is a great way to enhance your appearance without overdoing it.
2.) Bad brows can cause havoc in the beauty department so make sure you reap the benefits of a well-shaped brow – the effect can be almost as good as a face-lift (minus the cost, of course). Capitalize on your beautiful brows with carefully made up eyes. Steer clear of shimmery eye shadow as these will accentuate lines and wrinkles – opt for a matte shade instead and if applying loose eye shadow, make sure you dust away (you can use a cotton ball for this) any stray particles from under the eye area as this will also highlight those wrinkles you’re trying to draw attention away from.
3.) Every woman wants long, luscious lashes but the trick when it comes to age defying make-up is to apply mascara to the upper lashes only. This will prevent any under-eye smudging which will make your eyes look tired.
4.) Lastly, whether you’re into blush or not, don’t relinquish a rosy cheek. A light, peachy blush can make ageing skin look fresher and younger. Apply blush liberally to the apples of the cheeks and blend back towards the hairline.
