An eye infection would be enough to make you skip an event. If you really had to attend though, you’d probably go OTT with your makeup to try and hide it or wear your hair loose to cover some of your face. But not Amanda Seyfried. She embraced an inconvenient eye infection and made it actually work – and on a red carpet of all places.

Amanda Seyfried found herself with an eye infection on the day of a red carpet appearance for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again in Stockholm. But luckily, her makeup artist Mary Greenwell, who has worked with everyone from Princess Diana to Cate Blanchett, created an eye makeup look that complemented the eye infection.
Not only does Amanda’s slate smoky eye and red under-eye shadow look incredible, it distracts from the infected eye. And it’s safe to say Amanda was happy with the result. “Eye infection vs. @marygreenwell’s makeup design,” Amanda captioned on Instagram. “Here we come Stockholm fans — Mamma Mia is in Abba Country!”
Mary also had something sweet to say, praising Amanda for hitting the red carpet despite the infection. “I just want to say how wonderful Amanda is. While most people would hide from the camera, here she is looking as beautiful as ever with make up purposefully created to work WITH Amanda’s eye infection. I love this so much,” Mary wrote on Instagram.

Luckily, Mary also included a complete breakdown of the products she used on Amanda, so you can recreate the entire look if you want to – eye infection or not!
To prep Amanda’s skin, Mary used a combination of Sisley Hydra-Global Serum, Sisley Moisturiser with Cucumber and Sisley Botanical Eye and Lip Contour Balm. For the fresh base, Mary used Chanel Les Beige Sheer Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturiser and Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer blended with the brand’s Secret Camouflage Concealer. To make Amanda’s base glow, Mary added Sensai Powder Blush, Guerlain Bronzer and Guerlain Compact Powder. For those eyes, Mary used the Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Palette and the Sensai Beauty 38C Black Mascara. Plus, that pout! Mary lined and filled in Amanda’s lips with Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk before adding some Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in No 1 for gloss.
