Megan Gale is the definition of superwoman. On top of a successful modelling career and designing for her swimwear label Isola, the 38-year-old is currently fulfilling her role as L’Oréal Paris ambassador, attending the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) in support of the brand. Lucky for us, the stunning mum-to-be was able to take some time out of her busy schedule to chat to us about all things beauty.
bh: You’ve been a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris for a while now – what have been some of your favourite moments with the brand?
Megan: I think when we first announced it and had a fantastic big launch in Sydney, back in August 2011. That was a really great moment and a really fun night. Also travelling to Los Angeles and Thailand to shoot some commercials was a lot of fun and a great opportunity.
bh: There’s some gorgeous creative of you for VAMFF sporting the very-on-trend winged eye look – is this a make-up look you think you’ll incorporate into your everyday/night beauty looks?
Megan: Yes absolutely, I love it. I mean I had help doing that, I’m not going to pretend I did that myself, I’m still trying to perfect it. But I think if you can manage to practice it and get it right it’s a striking look and really great for autumn and winter.
bh: What touches would you give to the winged eye to make it your own?
Megan: Well, I think that’s the beauty about it, and what I think L’Oréal has illustrated in the trend itself, is that there are different ways to do it. You can make it a bit more rock star or glam; you can make it more sophisticated and sleek or you can make it quite minimal. There are different variations on it depending on what kind of mood you are in, what suits your own particular eye shape – there is not just one way to do it. So for me it would just depend on what I felt like for that day. But there are those options there to jazz it up a bit.
bh: What’s your best-kept beauty secret?
Megan: If your eyes are looking a bit tired, or not quite as white as you’d like them to be, line the inner rim of your eye with a white pencil or a cream pencil to open them up, it definitely brightens your eyes up and makes them look a bit more luminous.
bh: What do you think your ‘quick and easy’ go-to beauty style will be once you’ve had the baby, have minimal time to yourself, but still want to look good? Do you have any time-saving beauty tricks?
Megan: I think there will be a lot of dry shampoo used. Probably very simple hairstyles as well. Whether it’s a topknot or ponytail – just anything that is practical, but still looks groomed, I don’t want to look like a mess! If I do go out then I’m sure, depending on how much time I have, I’ll keep the make up look pretty natural. Although, you know you can keep things natural in the eye but still brighten things up and make a bit of an effort. It doesn’t take long to put on red lipstick if you know what I mean. I don’t want the wheels to completely fall off in regards to beauty, as I say, over the years I have been around enough to have the knowledge of how to create those quick looks.
How do you like to apply your winged eyeliner? Do you prefer a subtle or bold look? Which one of Megan’s looks above do you like best?
