If you thought 2017 was the year of weird beauty trends, think again! 2018 is shaping up to have some of the strangest yet.
We love weird beauty trends. It’s not like we’re likely to groom our brows into whatever wacky shape is trending, or use up all of our exxy makeup just to experiment, but we still find them fun. And, we’ve got to give these Instagram influencers props – they can be pretty creative!

Cloud eye makeup
Makeup artists and Instagram influencers have been all over the cloud eye makeup trend for a while but only lately has it burst into a full-blown Insta-trend. We consider the cloud eye makeup trend to be on the more-likely-to-try end of the weird beauty trends spectrum. Don’t believe us? While there are beautiful and more extra interpretations like this one above, the cloud shape can also be a used in the crease as a subtle and soft alternative to a cut-crease.

Fishtail Brows
The mermaid-inspired fishtail brow trend (named so because it resembles the tail of a fish) started with influencer @skyzeditz and spread all the way to makeup guru Huda Kattan!
Right-angle brows
A makeup artist known as Void (@vforvoid on Instagram) created these right-angle brows. “Incorporating geometry into my makeup has challenged me to piece looks together in a different way and improve my line work,” Void told Allure.
Halo brows
So far, halo brows are probably the biggest of 2018’s weird beauty trends. Teenager Hannah Lyne created the look after being influenced by the way fishtail brows flicked upwards. She just continued to carry the brow up until they met in the middle.
Corkscrew nails
Kira Sky Nail Products brought this quirky manicure trend into the spotlight this year with a mesmerising step-by-step video. It’s certainly cool, but we can’t help but wonder about the practicality…
Glitter brows
In a nice change of pace, Instagram has brought us yet another brow trend. This time around it’s glitter brows and we have to say, they’re probably the best of this bunch. Definitely one for all the glitter-lovers out there!
Slugging
Slugging is a K-beauty craze that gained popularity on Reddit. It involves putting a thick layer of petroleum jelly on your face (and thus appearing slug-like) in order to lock in moisture.
Crown eyeshadow
This trend has been happening for months, though it recently started to gain momentum after Huda Kattan shared a video of the look. The trend is fairly straightforward; metallic eyeshadow is used on the lid and multiple points are then drawn upwards. Plus, you can bedazzle it for extra glam!
This would be good to do for a fancy dress party or special event. Love the weird and wacky with some beauty trends.
