I know winter is nearly over (or am I just being wildly optimistic?), but I absolutely love going to the Blue Mountains for the weekend in the middle of winter. Coming from Sydney, it’s the only time you get to experience proper winter weather without having to travel too far.
I love going on extended bush walks with my family and being out in the cold crisp air – it’s truly exhilarating and you get some exercise at the same time! My favourite restaurant ever is Vulcan’s in Blackheath in the Mountains and no matter what, we always manage to fit in a dinner there. I love sitting by an open fire after coming home from dinner with a glass of red wine and some cheese, and playing cards or scrabble. My idea of heaven!
I also really love ambling around all the antique shops you find in the Mountains and have found some fantastic treasures (and some trash) over the years.
The only thing that makes these weekends away even better is if it snows. We’ve been lucky enough to have been snowed on a few times whilst staying in the Mountains, and it’s such fun! There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the bush covered in pristine white snow.
