Urban Remedy 5-Day Detox

Urban Remedy 5-Day Detox

Lack of sleep (the joys of a one-year-old-son!), a reliance on sugar to boost my energy, too much alcohol and a diet containing too much meat resulted in the need for a mind and body overhaul. And this is where Urban Remedy comes in!

Urban Remedy offers three detox programs – light, moderate and advanced as well as the option of one, three or five days. I opted for the five-day, moderate level, which involved absolutely no food (well, if you’re desperate you can snack on some cucumber slices or half an avocado but that’s barely food by my standards!). Instead you drink six specifically formulated juices a day for five days.

The purpose of this is to give your digestive system a complete rest, only allowing your body ingredients that are good for it. The juices are a mix of fruit (apples, pear, lemon) and vegetables (cos lettuce) and super foods (spirulina).

Day 1 was definitely the hardest as eating is somewhat of a habit so the fact that you can’t eat is a bit strange. Having said that, I enjoyed most of the juices and not having to think about what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner made a nice change.

By Day 3 I was into the swing of the detox and although I felt a bit run down, there was light at the end of the tunnel with only two days to go.

By Day 5 I felt lighter, had a clearer mind and a real sense of satisfaction that I had given my body a break.

Results

I lost 1 kilo from the detox but I suspect that will soon go back on once I start eating again. My skin looks clearer and I’ve been having much deeper sleeps than before the detox. For me, the biggest result was the increased energy and clearer mind. I feel I’ve been more productive and organised in both work and home life and I haven’t needed the daily caffeine intake to get me through the day.

Another noticeable difference and benefit of doing a detox is the fact that even though I can eat now I am more choosy about what I put in my body. I’ll be honest, this detox requires will power so having made it through the five days I feel I don’t want to undo the good work by snacking on a chocolate bar. I’ve broken my caffeine habit and have only had one or two coffees in the two weeks since doing the detox. I also have a newfound love of herbal tea, which is much better for you – especially in winter when I tended to drink lots of tea and coffee and not enough water.

Urban Remedy also gives great support with email updates and encouragement to help see you through your five-day detox.

If I’m totally honest, I probably should have opted for level one, which is recommended for first-timers (like me). This level is ideal for people who know they could improve their lifestyle but possibly don’t have the will power for anything too hardcore!

Or alternatively, rather than doing level 2 for five-days, which I found challenging for a first time detox – I could have chosen to do it for three days.  But nevertheless, I was happy with my results and would definitely do an Urban Remedy cleanse again.
