Earlier this week, Selena was living it up, reading, relaxing and swimming on a private yacht with friends in Sydney Harbour when she was papped in her bikini. It was the first time she’s been photographed in a bikini since her kidney transplant last year. The 25-year-old had to have the transplant as a result of her battle with Lupus (an autoimmune disease that impacts the heart, liver, joints and kidneys).

Once the paparazzi pictures started to circulate, fans were quick to notice Selena’s surgery scars. But it seems the photos also sparked some cruel comments from online trolls. Selena has now taken to Instagram, calling out body-shamers’ unrealistic beauty standards and spreading a message of body-positivity.
“The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty,” Selena captioned alongside a carefree video of her and her friends enjoying their time on the Harbour. “I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails.”
We couldn’t agree more, Sel!
