7 ‘silver influencers’ you need to be following

In its relatively short lifespan, the term ‘influencer’ has become synonymous with young, fresh and completely flawless faces who are paid the big bucks by brands to be ambassadors for their products.

But, to our delight, we’ve recently discovered a whole new world of Instagrammers sitting in a different age bracket, that have earned themselves the title of “silver influencers”.

In a refreshing turn for social media, this demographic of influencers hold one of life’s greatest assets: The ability to radiate confidence just by being yourself and not caring what people think –something that tends to only become achievable following a wealth of life experience.

We guarantee it will only take 20 seconds of grid scrolling to feel empowered by these silver-haired stunners, who are using their personal style and voice to express themselves.

And it’s of no surprise that big brands are starting to sit up and listen. . In fact, industries traditionally criticised for being riddled with ageism, are now fighting to appear ‘age-inclusive’, with campaigns featuring women over 60 such as  Lynn Slater becoming the face of fashion brand Mango, and Gillean Mcleod at age 63 being a swimwear model for H&M.

For a breath of fresh air on your social media feed, these are some of our fave ‘silver-influencers’ that you need to be following….

Caroline Ida – @fiftyyearsofawoman

Written in her Insta bio, Caroline describes herself as a body-positive, silver model and influencer.

While you may have to brush up on your French to translate any of the captions, Caroline’s images alone will leave you in awe of her fun makeup looks, unafraid of rocking a heavier eye shadow or bold lip.

And when it comes to her view on embracing the silver?  “I accept myself even with my silver hair,” she says, “which are multicoloured, not white or grey but a lot of colours together that I don’t chose, but that my hair chose to be” *make sure you read aloud in your best French accent…

Linda Rodin – @lindaandwinks

Seriously… Could you get any more fabulous than Linda Rodin, the founder of makeup brand Rodin and her silver-haired poodle Winks?

An Instagram feed that could be on exhibition, Linda and Winks are the uber-stylish gift that keeps on giving. Between Linda’s bright lipsticks and Wink’s perfectly groomed coat, it’s no wonder this account has a whopping 281 k followers.

Dian Griesel – @diangriesel

Dian is a model, author and founder of @silverdisobedience, her platform where she shares advice on how to ‘live and love agelessly’.

Judith – @stylecrone

Whether she’s accessorising to walk down the street or bringing a splash of colour to an otherwise dark day (like her late husband Nelson’s chemotherapy sessions) Judith is rightly adored by her following.

In her late 70s, Judith radiates positivity and self-expression through her unique and fun style.

Manon Crespi – @manon_crespi

Manon Crespi’s perfect skin, dark brows and glossy, silver tresses give us major face and hair envy.

We have lost hours scrolling the mesmerising model’s Instagram page, which is full of close-up selfies and candid shots, and you know what, we regret nothing.

Jean and Valerie – @idiosyncraticfashionistas

This NYC fashion duo describe themselves as “women of a certain age setting a bad, bad example for older women everywhere!”.

Every day, every post and every outfit is different and their Instagram takes you on an exciting adventure, encouraging all of us to have a little bit more fun and not take ourselves too seriously.

Check them out here.

  1. I don't follow any of them but I looked at their pages to see what they were all about. I think in regards to Judith, Jean and Valerie it's all about fun and confidence – living the life they want to live.

  2. How awesome. We really need more of this. We need the beauty companies to understand that once we reach 50 we are still interested in how we look and we still need the beauty companies to care enough to cater to our needs.

  3. I've been following Dian Griesel for a while but only occasionally see her posts – don't follow for what they are doing/wearing – but for the positivity they exude – they're loving their life and having fun! Definitely not "influenced" by them as far as products go.

But if they can get a good following it bodes well for the rest of us over 50's in that companies will take notice of that demographic.

  4. I love this!! I love that these women are embracing ageing. How beautiful is Manon? I follow an account on mats called Dani Stevens. She’s an Aussie influencer and she transitioned to grey. She has a wellness page and documents her family life and healthy lifestyle.

  5. I'll second that, GeeJ! For anyone who's interested, Bh member katshepsutt has a blog called "Kat's Colourings", which is well worth following.

    I've marked Jamesm12 & Leratoshato1 below as spam.
