King Charles Has Been Diagnosed With Cancer

After King Charles and Kate Middleton were both admitted to hospital in January for prostate and abdominal surgeries respectively, the public was under the impression that the royals would be spending the following weeks in recovery and return to their duties.

However, today the Palace revealed that during the King’s time in hospital, doctors discovered that His Royal Highness has cancer. The palace hasn’t confirmed the type or stage of cancer he has been diagnosed with, but they have denied that it is prostate cancer.

The 75 year old has started regular treatments for the cancer and will postpone public duties during treatment, according to the BBC.

The British broadcaster also shared that the King has personally informed both of his sons of the diagnosis, with Prince William, a member of head of state required to fill in for his father’s public duties. Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and Prince Edward will also be stepping as needed. However, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew will not be participating in public duties as they are no longer working royals.

The King will maintain his constitutional role as head of state, which includes paperwork, private meetings and weekly audiences with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak unless advised otherwise by his doctors.

He has returned home to Sandringham after his stint in hospital for his prostate procedure and “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” said the Palace.

Prince Harry is also said to be leaving America for England in order to be close to his father during this time.
