Kate Winslet is always a well spring for great advice, and when it comes to dealing with perimenopause and menopause she obviously has a few tricks up her sleeve for making the transition easier.
The actress stopped by the Failing With Friends podcast hosted by Elizabeth Day to chat about everything from her career, to the lack of libido she experienced after she started going through the change.
Testosterone therapy helped her rekindle her libido
“Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid,” the 49 year old shared with the podcast host. “There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone.”
“A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out — like eggs — it’s gone, and once it’s gone you have to replace it, and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again,” she explained.
She wishes she had stood up to body shamers sooner
Kate has always been vocal about normalising women’s bodies and experiences, but it’s something that hasn’t always come easily to her — especially when the media turned on her in the ’90s.
“I wasn’t worried about my physicality. I felt well. I felt strong. I felt clear-headed about my physicality,” she shared in the podcast. “It was only when suddenly the media decided that I was overweight when I was a size oh my God, I don’t know [a size] 10, 12, 14, 12 again, 14 again, 10 Again, 12 again, whatever I was — a young person living life and just being normal.”
“Now it is a movement,” she continued. “It’s a movement that I feel part of… I know that I was at the very beginning of all of this a very very long time ago, but maybe I could have accelerated the beginning of that movement had I really stood up for myself myself more.”
“It may have in turn given other actresses’ inspiration to do the same, and that would have advanced that movement I feel just a bit more,” Kate confessed to Elizabeth. “Anything where women stand together and are using their voices on mass is only ever a great thing and I just wish it had come sooner.”

What do you think of Kate’s advice?
I think she’s great.
Good advice. I do recommend Kaz Cooke’s book “it’s the menopause” if you need good info about menopasue.
Good for her. She is an inspiration for other women going through the same challenges
Yes she is an amazing lady
I can’t believe how lucky I was – no menopausal symptoms!
I have to say that I was lucky as well and did not have any symptoms. Maybe a few mood swings but they didn’t bother me.
I’ve always loved Kate. She seems so authentic
Yes that is a marvelous quality
Kate is very down to earth
Good on her .
I think it’s good to listen to advice, and then do whatever suits you best.
yes that is good advice Onlyoni
Kate is amazing
She seems more realistic than many other actresses.
She is fantastic.
I had issues with my thyroid that completely wreaked havoc on my mood until I sought medical assistance. I wish I had paid more attention when I was young to potential thyroid issues because it was bewildering when experiencing it firsthand and it was only when a doctor diagnosed me with having a thyroid condition and getting treatment, that a lot of things finally made sense. If I had known about it earlier, I would have sought treatment much earlier instead of presuming I was in some kind of mood and my body was generally responding badly to what I initially thought was merely work-related stress.
Hm, interesting. Good to know what to expect, but not all of us will go trough same.
Love her down to earth approach
