The Number One Physical Factor Aussies Look For In A Romantic Partner

Here’s a question: what physical feature do you value most in a romantic partner? Hold onto your answer because we’re about to find out if it matches up with the 1,002 Aussies who were asked the same question.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we can’t help but think about the love (or lack thereof) in our lives: where we’re at, where we’re going and more specifically what we want it (them) to look like. The answer is Brad Pitt, obviously.

Of course, it goes without saying, looks aren’t the be-all and end-all.

But with 3.2 million Australians using dating apps in 2021, we’re finding ourselves falling victim to judging a book by its cover now more than ever.

So AirSmile took the guesswork out of what Australians are looking for physically and just simply asked the question…

Which physical feature do Aussies value the most?

Say cheese! Claiming the top spot by a significant amount, 75 per cent of participants voted good oral hygiene and teeth as their top three most important physical attributes.

The study reported that those surveyed believed people who looked after their teeth were generally well-groomed, healthy and happy.

Think about it, have you ever met a sad man with white teeth before? Well, yes actually. But that’s beside the point, back to the survey…

Though both male and female participants selected dental health as one of their top three priorities, it was actually women who led the charge overall. Among the votes, there were 14 per cent more women who submitted oral hygiene than men.

A good level of hygiene in general is a non-negotiable in a partner and oral hygiene is obviously no exception. If you’re like us and think everyone is now judging you by the cleanliness of your teeth, put the Bodecare Bamboo Toothbrush ($5.80, Body By Design) to good use ASAP.

In second place was height, with weight following closely behind. But only if you’re speaking to the Boomers. Gen Z, however? Good hair, don’t care.

Within the survey, this group revealed hair was a higher priority than weight when seeking out a romantic partner.

Other options that surveyors voted of importance included skin condition, having a symmetrical and well-balanced face, and being toned and fit.

Were you surprised by the results of this study? What would you choose as your most important physical feature?

  1. Smile and oral hygiene is highly regarded. Looks are fleeting. Having a good soul, being kind and a general all round good person are standout qualities and will make them more attractive inside out 😀✨

  2. Ah yes teeth. Just about to get my second child braces. People say he doesn’t need them, the orthodontist says he does. I didn’t have braces, didn’t need them. My husband had braces.
