Here’s a question: what physical feature do you value most in a romantic partner? Hold onto your answer because we’re about to find out if it matches up with the 1,002 Aussies who were asked the same question.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we can’t help but think about the love (or lack thereof) in our lives: where we’re at, where we’re going and more specifically what we want it (them) to look like. The answer is Brad Pitt, obviously.
Of course, it goes without saying, looks aren’t the be-all and end-all.
But with 3.2 million Australians using dating apps in 2021, we’re finding ourselves falling victim to judging a book by its cover now more than ever.
So AirSmile took the guesswork out of what Australians are looking for physically and just simply asked the question…
Which physical feature do Aussies value the most?
Say cheese! Claiming the top spot by a significant amount, 75 per cent of participants voted good oral hygiene and teeth as their top three most important physical attributes.
The study reported that those surveyed believed people who looked after their teeth were generally well-groomed, healthy and happy.
Think about it, have you ever met a sad man with white teeth before? Well, yes actually. But that’s beside the point, back to the survey…
Though both male and female participants selected dental health as one of their top three priorities, it was actually women who led the charge overall. Among the votes, there were 14 per cent more women who submitted oral hygiene than men.
A good level of hygiene in general is a non-negotiable in a partner and oral hygiene is obviously no exception. If you’re like us and think everyone is now judging you by the cleanliness of your teeth, put the Bodecare Bamboo Toothbrush ($5.80, Body By Design) to good use ASAP.
In second place was height, with weight following closely behind. But only if you’re speaking to the Boomers. Gen Z, however? Good hair, don’t care.
Within the survey, this group revealed hair was a higher priority than weight when seeking out a romantic partner.
Other options that surveyors voted of importance included skin condition, having a symmetrical and well-balanced face, and being toned and fit.
Were you surprised by the results of this study? What would you choose as your most important physical feature?
I like broad shoulders.
Me too!
I melt at broad shoulders too.
yes it is a nice to have
I would probably say height.
& height – I love tall men!
Me too! =D
I am tall so am comfortable with tall men
Rugged is my type!
I would say their face.
Btw, teeth can always be fixed and a few extra kilos can always be lost, but a good heart and soul cannot be replaced.
The results are not surprising.
I thought eyes would feature on this list for sure
I go for eyes -they are the mirrors to your soul
same here!
I must admit dental hygiene is important for men and women
I wouldn’t have thought to mention oral hygiene as I usually take it for granted, but poor oral hygiene, or poor hygiene in general, is a definite turn-off!
yes I agree -nothing is worse for both parties
Sure is a turn off
Agreed. Hygiene is sooo important!
I find the Gen Z results surprising: hair is more important than weight! Does that mean they’re more body positive than a Gen Xer like me?
weight can change very easily so what you see today may not be same in a few months
Hair, the first thing I noticed when I met my husband was his lovely ginger hair shining in the sun.
I think hair is good but different things attract at different times?
Surely this is to promote dental products. I don’t often even see some people’s teeth. I notice eyes in men but I think men notice eyes and hair in women.
And you would be right.
Smile and oral hygiene is highly regarded. Looks are fleeting. Having a good soul, being kind and a general all round good person are standout qualities and will make them more attractive inside out 😀✨
Totally but I suppose there is that first attraction
height, shoulders, eyes, yeah the package lol
Also well groomed feet and hands and teeth
I and bloxorz like your broad shoulders.
I really think it depends on the age of the person you are surveying.
I personally like scent. Personal scent not aftershave or deodorant.
Guess everyone has their own criteria for what you want in a partner. Also most Celebrities have had their Teeth redone with the Hollywood White Smile 😁
Good hygiene for sure, looks good and smells good
It’s really hard to separate out one thing. Maybe a good smile.
Bodycare bamboo toothbrush sounds nice. I think I remember seeing them at the shops the other day.
I look at hands, I admire well looked after hands on women and men
Height and eyes
Nothing worse than kissing someone with bad breath.
Healthy specimen, preferably blonde (sucker for blondes), yes to broad shoulders.
I think dental hygiene is important for both parties.
Bad breath would definitely be a turn off
Not surprised, a nice smile is always attractive
Eyes for me
hygiene in general is number 1 for me, and the height is always attractive too
Ah yes teeth. Just about to get my second child braces. People say he doesn’t need them, the orthodontist says he does. I didn’t have braces, didn’t need them. My husband had braces.
Everyone has their own preferences.
Beard for me
Nice eyes. Smiley eyes 🙂
