Uh oh. It appears we Australians aren’t exactly as healthy as we think we are.
Priceline Pharmacy recently surveyed over 60,000 Australians on their health and lifestyle habits, and the results are a little daunting: the average woman has a health age 5.5 years older than her actual age, and the average male’s health age is 4.9 years above his actual age. I guess it’s high time we all booked in for a health check-up, huh?
The survey also brought to light these five rather scary health facts about Australians:
#1. Current smokers are adding an extra 15.1 years onto their health age by keeping up the bad habit.
#2. Only one in five Australians eat the recommended daily intake of two pieces of fruit and five servings of vegetables.
#3. Only one in two Australians take part in at least three hours of exercise each week.
#4. A huge seven out of 10 Australians do not know their current cholesterol levels.
#5. A third of all Australian women feel their quality of sleep is low.
If you’re a little concerned about your health age after reading this, the good news is this: Priceline Pharmacy is offering free in-store health checks nationwide from April 9 until May 14 to help you get your health back on track.
“The health checks will include blood pressure and cholesterol level checks and of course our pharmacists will be on hand to offer people advice about any other health issues of concern,” says Priceline pharmacist, Justin Withers.
Thanks, Priceline. We appreciate you looking out for us.
Do you consider yourself to be rather healthy? When was the last time you had your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked?
