Gwyneth Paltrow is known for being, let’s say, quirky in the beauty department. Using sunscreen as highlighter? Not her best tip. The infamous vagina-scented candle? A Goop standout, for sure!
But look, that’s why we love her! Besides the sunscreen, of course: SPF isn’t an accessory, it’s an outfit.
She recently filmed an adorable how-to for Vogue, running fans through her signature frittata recipe (it looked delicious, by the way). Of course it wouldn’t be a Gwyneth video without some hilariously wild beauty tidbits…
Gwyneth Paltrow’s DIY facial hack
The first? Her unique DIY ‘facial’ hack. We don’t always have the time to cook an amazing meal and hit the spa, now do we?
“So I’m going to drain my potatoes,” Gwyneth explained before heading over to the sink.
“Facial,” she joked as the steam from the pot rose up into the air. Or at least we think she was joking. Technically, there’s not really much of a difference between a real steam facial and that, so hey, we’re open to it. Multitasking at its finest; potatoes and pure skin are both things we love!
The wellness ritual Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t like
DIY facial hacks weren’t all she decided to bless us with. The other classic Gwyneth comment? When running through a typical day for her, the wellness guru admitted that while she loves to meditate in the mornings with husband Brad Falchuk (she even calls it “life-changing”), there’s another wellness ritual she’s far less into.
After exercising (a Tracy Anderson session for Gwyneth), she generally likes to jump in the infrared sauna for 30 minutes (before then beginning her signature skin care routine, we would assume), but Brad is trying to get her on board with a temperature switch-up.
‘My husband is a big cold plunger,” she shared, referencing the ritual of sinking into an ice (or ice water) bath. “He’s trying to get me indoctrinated.” That’s a fancy word for persuaded, if you (like us) weren’t aware. “I’m having a hard time – it’s very, very cold. My balls really shrink when I get in that thing,” she laughed. Zing. “Just kidding,” she clarified.
Oh Gwyneth, never change!

Have you ever tried cold plunging? Would you be open to it or are you hesitant like Gwyneth?
I really enjoyed the Goop and Vogue YouTube video that the extracts are from… worth the 40 minute view
I’ve never tried cold plunging, I don’t think I would enjoy that at all!
I agree, would not like that much. Hate cold water on my body.
Me too. Brrrrrrr
Never tried cold plugging, don’t like really cold water. The steam thing sounds funny and I bet it works too.
Not a fan of it either
Definitely not. No way am I having a go. I hate the cold.
I couldn’t do it
I just can’t do the cold plunging, but I know it’s so good for you.
I’ve heard about the benefits of ice baths but there is no way I could handle that!
It’s giving me wrinkles just thinking about it.
I often do a cold shot in the shower – it’s invigorating! I can handle the cold, it’s the heat that kills me.
I am a hot water person and don’t think I could cope with a cold plunge
I’ve heard that giving your hair a final rinse with cold water after washing it is beneficial but I just can’t bring myself to do it.
I love warm water!
I’m trying for a cold shower rinse to start my cold water ritual. It’s difficult though…
No cold water dips for me.
Little bit of cold water splash on face is as far as I go with cold water.
Was told to finish my shower off with a cold water finish. It did not work well for me as I disliked it intently and wound up with a chest infection. Never again.
I agree with Gwynny on this one. I’m not going to do a Wim Hoff anytime soon
cold plunge is definitely not for me
It’s so good for you but it hurts!
I understand that the cold plunging is great for your immune system but I do find it hard to end my shower with cold water, but I try.
interesting, sounds a bit more normal and safe than her usual goop advice!
The cold plunge does not appeal at all
